<p>I hate cleaning bathrooms. Too many surfaces, too hard on my back, and it’s dirty again as soon as someone uses it.</p>
<p>I’m the designated dishwasher-loader (by my own choice). Other family members put dishes in the DW, but I do the rearranging. I approach loading the dishwasher the same way I approach luggage-packing…making the most efficient use of the space I have. DH thinks I’m nuts when it comes to both.</p>
<p>Hate dusting, therefore I don’t do it nearly as often as I should. Dust one day and it’s all back in the next day or two.
Same with hardwood floor. Push the dust mop/vacuum cleaner all over the floor, think I’ve done a decent job and still see dust here and there and it’s all back in 24 hours. It’s a thankless job.</p>
<p>Bathroom falls into same category. Clean it all up and can’t tell it a few days later. We do squeegee the shower every time we use it so the glass never gets gunky.</p>
<p>Also hate changing the sheets on the bed.</p>
<p>I used to hate grocery shopping when the kids were at home. Now that we’re empty nesters, it’s not as stressful as it used to be.</p>
<p>I don’t mind laundry or loading/unloading dishwasher. </p>

<p>lol…my best friend and I were talking about this the other day. Her H doesn’t think she does anything all day because when he comes home, dinner is ready and then she relaxes the rest of the evening. I told her that she needs to turn the vacuum on about 5 minutes before he gets home, so when he walks in he’ll “see” the cleaning getting done. ;)</p>
<p>My fiance is like that, I have told him, “have you never noticed that the toilets are always way cleaner than they were when you lived alone? And your laundry is clean without you having to do it? Do you think the cleaning fairy comes and does these things while we are sleeping?” He has lived on his own for probably 8+ years and says he still takes for granted all the things his mom used to do. I suppose some men never outgrow that… I hope mine does but I’m not holding my breath!</p>
<p>I don’t notice when things get cleaned. It’s not just a male thing. </p>
<p>The only thing I ever notice is the laundry. </p>

I don’t know where your DW is in relation to the Dishes/Glasses cabinet, but it does make it easier if that cabinet is above or very close to the DW. I once had an island with the DW in it. I had to walk several steps to the cabinet to put dishes/glasses away. It’s much easier when the cabinet is above the DW.</p>

<p>When I was a newlywed, I did DH’s laundry for the first time. He actually had the gall to complain that I hadn’t folded his briefs and socks properly before I put them into his drawers. His mother had made her sons learn to do their own laundry from the time they were 8-10, so he had his own “correct” system developed over many years.</p>
<p>And he’s been doing his own laundry ever since that day. 
I do mine and the kids’ laundry, but since our master bathrooms have always had built in his/her laundry cabinets, he’s on his own. </p>
<p>I go through phases with housework. Sometimes I feels this bustle of energy to keep everything neat, clean, and tidy and other times I loathe doing any housework. I am currently in that slothful phase. I notice that once I declutter, tackling the cleaning gets easier. It is a thankless task that needs repeating far too often!</p>
<p>I have noticed that since becoming obsessed with CC, I just don’t have time for household chores!! </p>
<p>Ironing is one of my least favorite chores because it primarily consists of my DH work shirts. I usually wait until I have a pile of 25+ shirts or my DH complains that he’s low on shirts before I spend an afternoon catching up. I feel like my efforts are truly wasted in the winter when he wears a fully ironed shirt under a sweater! I never understand how people say they don’t need to iron their things if they promptly remove them from the dryer and hang right away. Sure they look unwrinkled, especially compared to the ones left in the dryer for a day or two (sometimes happens), or removed and stuffed into a laundry basket (I never do this). But they never have that nice crisp crease that comes form ironing (plackets, sleeves, pant legs). Maybe I’m buying the wrong fabrics. Additionally, I have 3 brothers and a BIL who all do their own ironing.</p>
<p>I don’t really hate doing most other chores, I just find it hard to get motivated to do them. As mentioned by others, my cleaning only gets done if I’m expecting visitors. Heaven forbid anyone drops in unannounced!</p>
<p>I really think I own about three things that need to be ironed. Too much effort for a shirt. Plenty of clothes are designed wrinkle free nowadays :)</p>
<p>I am in love with my Joy Mangano “My Little Steamer.” My younger son has to “dress up” once a week when he’s in the hospital, so he asked for one as well. Quickly sent him one from HSN and he loves it ( I think they’re about $18 right now). I think Target sells them as well.</p>
<p>I also got a “go mini” one for travel.</p>

My grandma never had a dishwasher- possibly why she had only one kid!

But can’t you just sweep the stairs? We have numerous hard wood steps, 2 here, 4 there, etc in the house, which I just sweep as I sweep the floor, easy & almost cathartic as I see the debris pile up & feel I am doing a great job.</p>
<p>I just use the attachment on the wood stairs - perfect for the dog hair.</p>
<p>Actually, I get on my hands and knees with damp paper towels and do the 14 stairs that way. Very cathartic. I get up a ton of dog fur (see avatar) and sand and dirt. I feel good that I can spend 10 minutes cleaning something, and then it’s clean.</p>
<p>Of course I clean almost nothing else.</p>
<p>@somemom—I don’t own an indoor broom! I keep the vacuum in a cabinet that the kitchen designer had the sense to include many years ago and I just lug it out as needed. The closet also has a plug for one of those little handheld vacs and I will pull that out for minor spills. </p>
<p>@SnLMom–Re: Ironing shirts. Brooks Brothers no-iron—the best invention ever. The dry cleaner would tear the buttons off with the pressing machines. Finally tried BB no-iron. Truly amazing. Granted, you do need to pull the shirts from the dryer as soon as or slightly before it stops running, and then hang and button them, but no need to iron a shirt ever again. The patterns are not all that exciting, and they have recently played around with what they are naming each cut, but they are excellent. They are on sale maybe June and December and last for years. Husband and son are very happy. Neither will wear no-iron pants.</p>

lol…oh our pets. They are messy! Right now, I have tiny bits of paper shredded in front of me that my 4lb Yorkie has done. Can’t let her get ahold of ANY paper. She’ll shred it instantly. Even the little ones make messes. My Doxie has knocked over his kibble bowl (likely in protest), so now on to sweeping. </p>
<p>Well, this is a timely thread. I let go the housekeeping service 2 weeks ago so now it is just us and our Roomba.</p>
<p>@mom2collegekids - Thinks for the tip on the steamer. I’ve never used one before, but it’s a small enough investment to give it a try. Can you make creases with it?</p>
