What home chores do you hate the most.....and why?

I don’t think anyone has mentioned taking out the dog and/or picking up after them. I love my dog dearly, but she is high maintenance. She is a big dog and not very friendly (other dogs and people that aren’t me or my kids are NOT well received, especially outside). Can’t get an electric fence because other small dogs in the neighborhood would come in and she would eat them… Could put up a “real” fence, but that has some aesthetic issues for our yard – plus if I just let her out to go then come spring I have a horrible mess to clean up, and also it makes one have to be VERY careful when walking in the yard the rest of the year.

So… 3 or 4 times a day I bundle up, tuck a dog baggie in my pocket, and we go out on the leash. And it has been pretty awful this winter, we have had 42 days so far this winter below zero (not below freezing, but below zero Fahrenheit). She isn’t enjoying it too much either, she is an older dog. And this time of year I leave for work before it is light… brrrr…

After being tired of being the only one to replace TP rolls, I got these. At least now the men in the family will put a new roll on. Of course, I’m the one who has to refill the stack, but that’s far less often.

there are also cheaper versions…
http://www.amazon.com/Interdesign-Classico-Toilet-Stand-Chrome/dp/B00451BNUG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1392468991&sr=8-1&keywords=toilet+paper+holder

And there are versions that hang from the tank. This one holds 2 extra rolls, but I’ve seen ones that hold 4 extra rolls. I gave those to my sons for their school apts.

“and/or picking up after them.”

This is what I have a husband for.

I knew there was a use for them!

Paying3T–when we were visiting Greece the tour guide said parking was scarce–people NEVER would move their cars–they’d rather walk than lose the space they had. Pretty sure that was accurate.

TP rolls get changed if there are spares stacked up somewhere close.

My latest least favorite chore: Shoveling snow. :((

Thanks for helping with my tempest in a TP.

Mom2ck, I picked up one of those tp-storage thingies for the spare bathroom. Storage is severely limited in that room, so I always had to keep tp stored in the adjacent laundry room. Then when guests were expected, I’d have to remember to put a spare roll on the back of the toilet. This gizmo solves the problem.

Tetris was the only computer game I ever liked playing…and I’m also an inveterate dishwasher re-arranger. Never realized the similarities there! (Just when you think you’re not a lemming…)

Taught D to do her laundry when she was 9 or so. Never regretted it.

I did acquire a steam mop and have discovered that I like doing the hardwood floor now. Turns out all my shmop covers fit quite nicely on the steam mop.

Cleaning out the fridge is on the despised list. Did it about a week ago and I’m safe now for another few months.

I’m trying out microfiber cloths for dusting rather than using Endust on a regular cleaning cloth. I’m hoping it works.

My mom was always willing to do my laundry when I was growing up, but on her time. I did not have enough clothing to wait for her to get around to my laundry, I would be getting dressed and realize I had no jeans. So I voluntarily started doing my own. Don’t tell them I said it, but my parents were pretty brilliant sometimes.

Had to do a hated chore yesterday that I had forgotten about. It ties in with my hate of having wet hands. Mixing hamburger for a meatloaf with my hands. I know that I need to get disposable gloves and that will help. I hate that gooey meat feeling between my fingers…yuck.

lol…but I don’t mind touching cookie dough. ;)

H just paid our building’s assistant superintendant to shovel around our car so I’m ready to move it across the street tomorrow. It’s great having these guys as my pit crew.

H felt sad he couldn’t do it himself, but after a week, the mountain of snow and ice was ferocious. He doesn’t have the back of a younger man, but has the spare $35 in his wallet. I mean, that’s the cost of a copay to see his doctor for a back thrown out. So we’re calling it a wash.

All microfiber cloths are NOT created equal. I used the “as seen on TV” ones and LOVED them–they would clean anything with just a bit of water. And great for dusting too. So I wanted more and bought the Scotch brand–horrible, they wouldn’t clean a thing.

Well, I just bought a set of 4 microfiber cloths at target on close out $3.50 but haven’t tried them yet.

I love clean windows. I HATEHATEHATE Andersen windows with the window grids that pop into the sides of the sashes with little plastic spring clips. I’m sure they got paid bribe money from hand surgeons. Ditto for the moron that designed their tilt-wash system, especially on wide windows.

I don’t mind painting, but I hate scraping and prep work.

Vacuuming stairs, cleaning the shower.

I hate emptying the dishwasher too, that’s why it was the very first chore I assigned my kids when they were young. It’s one of the few they still do. I have them clean their own bathroom as well. They don’t actually clean it though. Seems they prefer to live in filth. I make sure to tell any visitors (of theirs, mine wouldn’t be upstairs generally) that they are in charge of it, not me. I do force them to clean it sometimes. I will do the shower or toilet if it gets too bad. Don’t want it to become permanent!

Is all chores an option? It’s probably a tie between laundry and dishes. I don’t mind cleaning, vacuuming or dusting… even though dusting gives my allergies fits.

I am done with cooking! I just don’t enjoy it anymore. Am terrible about washing floors - wait far longer than should. Squeegee in shower helps a great deal but still needs a thorough cleaning. Fortunately DH loves to vacuum and the rest of the chores are well shared. I put things in the washer, but he’ll often fold. Whoever is up first empties the dishwasher and deals with cat litter, etc. Have never had help in the house or outside although now considering someone to take care of lawn. Question of how time is best spent I think…

RE: TP–we buy those giant packs and keep them next to our “powder room” (most used) toilet. Still, people in my house will leave empty rolls. I don’t really mind changing them. Reminds me of a squabble among my college suitemates–one girl was really annoyed whenever she found an empty roll. She left a note saying "Replace the TP roll–IT’S A SIMPLE JOB!! Then another girl came along and added “. . .That’s why we always let YOU do it!”

Our fridge rarely gets a thorough cleaning and I was horrified to see one of D’s friends just open it, grab a container of sour cream, and start pouring it in a bowl for chip dip. (First of all, I think it is rude to open someone’s fridge without permission. . .I’m glad D’s friend feels “at home” here, but I hope my kids would never do that at another house.) I practically snatched the container out of her hand and had to explain that in our house, we can’t just EAT something out of the fridge–it has to be “checked” (to see if it is “expired,” or growing mold) first. Fortunately, it was the non-expired container she grabbed. The moldy one was in the back of the fridge. D has a couple other friends whom she has excluded from party invites–because they are neat freaks/germaphobes/come from ultra-sanitary homes, and D could see they were uncomfortable in our messy (really, it is not THAT bad, but certainly a contrast to their lifestyle) house on other visits.

I used to get annoyed when DH would use the last of the TP and not replace it. And I ALWAYS would end up dropping the spring thingy and have to pick up all the pieces and do it again. In our new house, the toilet roll holder is stationary and open ended, so that problem is solved. And our master bedroom has two bathrooms, so no one else to blame but myself!
