What I have ordered

the ceremony is 2 p.m. The tables will be more formal than the barbecued food would lead you to believe. Believe me, they are really blending their “druthers”.

Can I be the only woman in the world who wishes someone would make more dresses with jackets???
And I have lived in VA for 39 years. I’m pretty aware of how much the weather can vary. My very own wedding day was a perfect, beautiful fall day on Oct. 29. This wedding is Oct. 19. Heck, I’m just hoping there isn’t a hurricane!

4, although very attractive, appears to have tiny sequins. I simply cannot see wearing sequins at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. :)

The need for a jacket is one reason why I think that dressy separates would be a good idea.

ChocChipCookie, I could not answer your PM as this site says I have no posts. No idea why they are not being counted!
Your recommendation is lovely but I really do not wear nor am I comfortable in skirts. Has to do with being short-waisted. Thank you though!

Post in the Parent Cafe don’t “count.”

Just imagine what our post totals would be if they did! :D

I wonder if it would be appropriate to wear a gorgeous sweater set with pants.

when in Neimans, I see such lovely sets, with beadings and other trims. If I was going to a barbecue, I would feel so elegant with one of these sets than a dress with a jacket or sweater. Then again, I cannot remember when last wore a dress. maybe 2005?

Hi again. I’m the “start with the shoes lady”. (Full disclosure - I worked at Thom McAn in hs).

Pumps sinking in the soil would be a killjoy. Ha, you could go the route I saw a recent wedding - the bride wore a lovely long gown… and at the reception she lifted it to show her Teva sandals. But it’s unlikely to work for MOB.

Something like this might be nice.

or maybe these

I think the second pair are the kind of thing that would work, but again: shiny metallic outside at 2 in the afternoon when the groom and ushers are wearing khakis and white shirts? Not in my opinion. But clearly I am on a different page than the OP regarding this. :)

Personally I’d probably lean toward a more casual dress (but with a jacket, like OP prefers) and wedge shoes. But at the 4pm outdoor wedding we attended in August, there was a vast variety of attire. The MOB/MOG both had lovely traditional, dressy dresses… short and tea length.

Bookworm, I do think an elegant pantsuit would be perfect. I hate dresses anyway. I’ll ask future DIL if she approves.

Colorado Mom I love the Aerosoles! Thanks! We shall see.
I have acceptable shoes already, though, so probably won’t buy any new ones.

As the future mog I have been looking. My son’s wedding is late next summer. A few comments: If you have found the “perfect” shoe who’s only drawback is a heel (no matter the height of the heel) you can take it to a shoemake who will turn the heel into a wedge. I’ve done it, so have a number of my friends.

I am looking for St. John clothes. They are pricey, but are beautiful and will last. In addition all collections have a complete line…which is jacket/pants/dress/shirts/sweaters can be mixed and matched. They do have sales, so you are not “stuck” with the high price. Their largest size is a 16, but they can refit much of the line to make it bigger.

…and Chanel clothes all come with the adaptability of two sizes up or down.

The first dress is a winner! I was so happy trying it on.
However…I also found this one and it’s awesome and so comfortable. I had to reorder in a smaller size so I’m looking forward to getting that one. We shall see. Oh, and I’m going to have the sleeves shortened to elbow length.

What an amazingly great price for the Amazon dress!

Glad you love the 1st dress. Maybe you’re destined tonget several new dresses and update your wardrobe! You deserve it and could wear different ones for the various festivities, plus the holidays will be here before we know it!

Good point, HImom. : D
