"What I wish I had done..." for students awaiting decisions

not sure what topic this thread is about, so i’ll give responses to both hahah

i wish i had taken AP Stats instead of the regular Prob & Stats class. it looks soooo much better on senior year transcripts

anyways, in the meantime i’m just living life like normal, trying not to think about April 1st around the corner (it makes time go much faster).

Oh too many regrets to write down. I’m kinda embarassed to write this but maybe my ■■■-up will warn somebody.

 1. I wish I hadn’t slacked off in school, because my SAT of 2310 went to total fking waste
 2. I wish I hadn’t listened to people dissing my grade and saying I had no chance of getting in any good colleges (my mom, all my friends…) because at that point I just gave up and slacked even more in senior year and got a D and dropped classes only to get admittance letters from UC’s I wanted and now they will probably withdraw their acceptance offer because of that D, ■■■
 3. Missing art portfolio deadlines, mostly b/c of same reason as #2, but now that I see other people’s portfolios are crap, I feel really, really, really dumb and I just wanna hit myself. Auto-rejection…

For future students … don’t slack off, seriously, you might have much more of a chance than you think and it’s important to keep strong til the end. And more importantly don’t act stupid because everyone else tells you you’re stupid

Ohyeah, and if this thread is about ‘what you should do in the meantime [while waiting]’ … that’s kinda a dumb question. If you seriously have no more deadlines, RELAX! DUUUHH.

Don’t listen to your teachers who tell you to retake the SAT I if your scores are already in the high 700s. You really could do worse in all three sections.

I’m not graduating yet, but I do wish up to now I had…

believed in myself more. believe in your ability to do whatever you want, and don’t be afraid that you will be on your own, that you’ll be missing out on something, that you aren’t good enough, etc. Life is wasted on regrets of missed opportunities rather than leaps of faith you took, cause one day, you’ll be able to describe in a laugh and chuckle that “leap of faith.”

Don’t get obsessed with what other people are talking about with college! I’m just now beginning to realize this - every college is looking for a different thing with each person!

Don’t EVER regret hanging out with your friends over studying  int he long run, its gonna be your friend living it up with you, not some dowdy book :)

Just my two cents

One more thing to add.

Don’t believe 85% of the stuff you read on these boards. I find it hard to believe so many people have a 5.1 GPA with 2370+ SAT scores. This whole site is full of trolls or really insecure people nervous about their odds.

I regret that I did not try more in high school. I always did “good enough” and never took the time to truly excel. Everyone in my family is so smart, I have cousins going to Berkeley and Upenn, but I’m only going to Calpoly! I know Calpoly is still a good school, but there’s always that echo in my head that I could have done much more. The other day, I was talking to my AP Stats teacher, and he told me, “You better start trying in Calpoly. Because you know what, you are too smart for that school, you should not be getting Bs and Cs on tests. If you actually took the time to study and work, you could’ve been valedictorian!” And now I have so much guilt that all that I could have been has gone to waste.

So if any lowerclassmen are reading this, start trying!

@Matark

I know you are just venting. But, I read this and your other post, you said you couldn’t get into Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD, and UCSC. And you are devastated you have to go to Cal Poly, because it is not elite.

And you make it sounds like going to Cal Poly is so below you because it is not a UC. Dude, you should be thankful Cal Poly took you, because it is a lot harder getting to CPSLO than UCSC for sure. And depending on your major (especially if you are engineering/architecture/biz), it is actually harder to get into Cal Poly than UCI or UCD.

So you if think Cal Poly is so below you, you should just suck it up and go to a JC and transfer. And if going to a UC is so important to you, why don’t you just go to UC Riverside or UC Merced.

And you know what? UCD’s reputation is at most comparable to Cal Poly, by your measure neither here nor there. No one will go wow knowing you gradated from UCD/CalPoly. When compare to the the Ivies like UPenn, HYMPS, even Cornell, ALL the UCs are just MEH.
