What if a Quiet, Awkward Asian Becomes Valedictorian?

i’m an asian but i speak, write, and read english just as well as any other white person. but my korean is awful.

Only Filipinos have a good english accent in asia.

It’s very possible for an awkward Asian to be Valedictorian in the U.S.
Valedictorian is chosen by highest GPA in the graduating class, not popularity.
That would be Homecoming Court.

Are all of you Canadian and that’s why no one picked up on this?

If you’ve ever seen the movie Say Anything…with Iona Skye and John Cusack, the reason no one knew Diane Court was because she had spent her entire high school career studying and thus had the highest GPA.

This discussion thread started off slightly racist and just ascended downwards.
wow.

Are you sure that it didn’t start to the left and descend upwards?

That’s the best explanation.

No ranking = voting for speakers = popularity contests

Most valedictorians should be smart enough to practice before hand and get help if needed

How can you vote for a valedictorian? Doesn’t that defy the whole idea of one?

When I was little I thought it was called “ValeVictorian,” and that the person would wear a Victorian scarf around the neck and would salute with the highest average and in so doing had to be given a “Victorian” scarf in order to look prestige. Something like this: http://www.rrbycresa.com/Victorian/pi_1171.jpg</a>. LMAO.

How different is it than for an awkward, studious nerdy non-Asian kid to be Valedictorian?

Besides, not all (really) bright Valedictorians who happen to be Asian are awkward, nerdy and studious (believe it or not, some people don’t need to study all day to get straight A’s).

As for the language thing - totally breaks down btwn those who were born/raised in the US and those who are recent immigrants (those w/ a lesser grasp of English probably wouldn’t be Valedictorian anyways).

Only Asians are quiet and awkward. Didn’t you know that?

^ I wonder what the responses would have been if OP had initially posted “What if a Quiet, Awkward Jew Becomes Valedictorian?”

I mean, you probably won’t see most of the people again anyways, so why would they be nervous in the speech… that’s just my take but I guess it’s different for everyone.

This thread is still going? I still find the title offensive.

And after it was bumped people brought up the same points as if they hadn’t read any of the thread.
