Yes. I do recall tickets to the opera…and I could tell the show had an impact on my D. She auditioned for MT at IU the same weekend…so I know we arrived late afternoon and she went straight to the VP audition (not really caring about it so much). So we probs missed any parent thing. This was also over 10 yrs ago…so everything seems to have ramped up for welcoming parents over the years. She had an all day program for MT with a parent portion. She got rejected for MT (the long audition) and accepted for VP (the short audition). BUT that opera experience…I think that is where she started switching to classical voice hard. She got into other MT programs…but she decide on VP in the end…
You just never know what will “hook” your kid! Maybe it was the professor at Michigan? Or maybe it’s something yet to come. That is why I always say…just keep open…you never know…

He LOVED Michigan, and I can definitely picture picture him there. He said that professor has been his favorite so far. Unfortunately, it is way out of our comfort zone financially. I’m a single mom. His dad pays child support that all goes toward college savings, but it’s very, very expensive.

Would not read too much into this, D23 was stopped at Northwestern audition very early on, just several bars in while playing one of the pieces, and she restarted her Bach at Blair, I am talking completely stopped, and went back to start it again, got into both schools, with full ride at one. You never know.

Hi @RussianMom - For Blair acceptance, how important are academics? GPA and SAT? was wondering if it’s equally important as audition.
HOw soon did you receive your audition result from Blair?

My D23 heard from Blair/Vanderbilt on March 6th, 2023, she applied for the Cornelius Vanderbilt scholarship and was awarded it. So academics was a pretty important part of her application. Her SAT was 1570. Hope it helps!
Eastman has a sight-singing component. However, we were told it is just for theory placement, not for the admissions decision.
