Son recvd a letter about IEFX, but was unclear what it was . did a google search on it and there seems to be related pgms called ifoundry and possibly ENG 100. I assume the latter is not english 100.

When they created the special program, it was called iFoundry. After one year, I believe, they changed the name to IEFX. ENG100 is the class that freshman engineering students take in their first fall semester. That lasted for the first half of the semester. It is 0 credit hours and they talk about the engineering career. It is led by a junior or senior in the engineering department. Then, the last half of the first semester, they take another 0 credit course in their specific major, like GE100 or CE100. Those stand for General Engineering and Civil Engineering. That is led by an upper classman who is majoring in their specific major.

Never heard anything too exciting about the first class from son (they wrote their resume and learned about how to manage at the career fair, that is all I heard), but there was a presentation in the second class (from a visiting speaker, maybe a professor from UIUC or somewhere else) that really interested him. I view these as “EXPOSURE” classes, intended to expose them to as many elements of the engineering major and career as possible, recognizing that as freshman, they are pretty clueless.

Son did not apply for iefx, so I don’t have any knowledge there.
