Can we talk about McCain’s Celebrity ad? What does it say? Obama is a glamorous celebrity. Vote for me. I’m an old man. Ummm…because old really sells in America?

I’m actually wondering if John McCain has the mental focus and intellectual discipline to hold the Executive Office. Seriously. This isn’t flip-flopping or campaign gaffes; it’s mental confusion. All politics aside (for a nanosecond), we’re not talking about somebody’s grandpa who’s having a bit of trouble with his bank statement… we’re talking about someone who needs to have the mental fortitude and short-term memory to make decisions that will impact the world scene and all of our lives. This is very worrisome.

My parents, who are about his age and are pretty darned sharp, say that THEY don’t have the focus/sharpness/memory any more, and don’t think McCain does either.

I agree that the add is silly, but it is very effective. Can you name one single thing of substance that Paris has done in her entire life other than starring in her own sex movie? Now, can you name any single thing that Obama has done in his entire life that proves that he can handle the work as a commander in chief?

I don’t see a commander in chief in Obama, I am not sure if he has the fortitude to handle the job.

This is what Obama said in 2004

So the comparison is accurate.

What does Obama mean by this

Doesn’t look like the the presidents on the bills?

Oops,he did it again.

What did he do “again,” Tega?

He’s addressing the fact that people are wary of him. Presumptuous, arrogant…uppity?

This supposed “empty suit” graduated magna cum laude from harvard Law School rather than 5th from the bottom of his class. His teaching record has the admiration of law profs from different places on the political spectrum.
As for what he’s done in the political realm, he has a voting record in both the Illinois and US Senates. He has a record of achievements. Whether or not it’s enough to feel confident in him is a matter of individual choice.

I choose wisdom over “experience.” Much as I admire McCain for many of the things he has done in the past, a lot of it is irrelevant to being POTUS.

Marite, so were all the people comfortable with the people on the bills in their time? There is no denying the fact that he was talking about race in this instance. For someone who claims to be post-racial, his actions say a different thing.

I think people are confusing empty suit with being dumb, empty suit refers to the fact he has absolutely done nothing in his entire life to indicate that he can handle the work of the commander in chief. Absolutely nothing.

Almost all the politicians in the Illinois senate are there to rubber stamp the policies of the Daley machine, and since he has done very little since joining the senate, I wonder if the policies he voted are the policies that he believed in. He has used most of the time in the senate to campaign for the presidency.

I also see all the things Obama has done his entire life as absolutely irrelevant to be the commander in chief. I don’t think that he can handle the job.

They did not sign up for his class, so they can’t really say much about his teaching. I know professors who are are terrible teachers, but their exam questions reflect what they had hoped the class looked like.

Yes, he was talking about race. Absolutely. Because a lot of the discomfort is about his race.

Now, the choice is about McCain vs. Obama. I know you were a Hillary supporter, but Voteboth.org has just shut down.

If you’ve seen clips of McCain being told by Joe Lierberman (twice) what to say on the topic of Israel and by Carly Fiorina about whether or not Viagra was covered by health insurance, it’s rather scary.

In history, there are lots of examples of ambitious men and women using children to exercise power themselves. They were known as kingmakers or dowager empresses or regents. Early on in the campaign, I was not concerned about McCain’s age. But over the last month, I have been.

As I said, wisdom over experience.

The complete lack of a record of political accomplishment in office is why the Brittney Spears ad is so brutally effective. The ads effectiveness is why the Democratic candidate is playing the race card, just as his campaign did everytime he lost a primary.

And what about this card by the McCain camp?

McCain, Obama, and Nader.

Nader, yeah, right. Add Bob Barr and Ron Paul.

Marite, I did not support the idea of Hillary being on the ticket, in fact, I would have lost some respect for her if she had agreed to be on the ticket (assuming it was offered)

Was the GOP strategist Businessweek talked to work for the McCain campaign? Or Are they just making stuff up as Times and the rest of the media?

Nader drew 6% in this week’s CNN poll. That’s enough to be a spoiler again.

Personally, I am very seriously considering a vote for Nader. I’ve narrowed it down to McCain and Nader.

Same here. I would not have voted for an Obama/Clinton ticket.

I’m trying to remember why the “not ready to be commander in chief” “no foreign policy experience” argument didn’t prevent our current president from being elected. Did Al Gore use it?

Baaawwwaaahaaa.

[Slate Magazine](http://www.slate.com)

Go to Slate Magazine for a spoof video “Leave Barack Alone”. It takes the viral video of a whacko Brittney fan urging the world to “leave Brittney alone, right now, I mena it!” and overdubs it to the tune of “leave Barack alone”.

Hilarious.

Bush has been terrible (I give him points for his AIDS advocacy), he was definitely not ready to be the commander in chief.

EASY ANSWER: 9/11

During 2000, we lived in our own bubble…Go and ask people about why we got involved in the Balkans, Somalia or Haiti…the majority of Americans didn’t even realize we were still flying missions over Iraq. Americans were more interested in domestic policies, such as, Education, SS and Health Insurance.

What I find comical about that quote Gore as Veep should have more knowledge about terroristic acts, since Khobar Towers, Cole, NYC, UN Embassy bombings all occurred under Clinton! Gore could have used foreign policy, but he would have been hit with all of the aforementioned acts

b&p:
Gore was not my favored candidate. But when it became Gore vs. GWB, he had my vote. I don’t regret it. But I wish the contest had been between different people. I don’t think that Clinton’'s foreign policy was much to be proud about.

I don’t know because I really don’t know that most Black Americans were illiterate in 1874.

However, more apropos my point, if African Americans were illiterate and if you asked me if Fredrick Douglas was illiterate because “most Black Americans living in 1874 were illiterate” I would say: NO!

…because Fredrick Douglas who was Black American and lived in America in 1874 was NOT illiterate.

As for specific people that I do not know, I would have to say that there would be absolutely no way to know; therefore to say that a specific person was illiterate or racist because many were at that time or place would be foolish and prejudiced if not outright bigoted and lazy.

Here’s a chart from the New York times showing Obama’s record from the Illinois Senate. I think it’s important to note that when he was first elected, the Republicans were in the majority, so it was an uphill battle to get bills passed; as you can see he sponsored more than 800 bills:
[The New York Times > U.S. > Image > Obamas Record in the Illinois Senate](The New York Times > U.S. > Image > Obama’s Record in the Illinois Senate)

I’ll see if I can find something similar for his time in the US Senate. I did already do a search of Thomas and found that he sponsored or cosponsored hundreds of bills – but I’m hoping to find a chart or graphic that makes it more clear.
