That is incorrect. All Ivies use the AI. It’s part and parcel of the Ivy agreement among all league members.

which Gotti got into harvard?

they all look the same.

No it’s real ignorant of you to say that. I don’t know about legacies or recruited athletes, but I am black, or what you guys call a URM, and to even point something like that out is not needed. He didn’t ask if there’s an advantage being a minority, not that there is anyway.
Think about it like this, I could say a lot of things about most white people which are true and you may think is mean, but I’m not going to say it and that’s called class.
Don’t try to excuse rudeness with “statistics you found on the internet”

Are you actually trying to tell me that affirmative action does not exist at Cornell and other schools?

Yeah, seriously. Mercury just stated an undisputed fact (just go look at stats at ANY top school) and you’re getting all defensive when the comment wasn’t even pointed at a specific person. Those examples of white people, those aren’t facts backed by statistical evidence, are they? If so, fire away…

you guys just don’t get it but you will in the future.

It’s an undisputed fact that accepted GPA’s and SAT scores of URM’s are significantly lower.

This is not to say necessarily that minorities have an easier time getting into college since we have to factor in cultural influences, differences in parental salaries and education, and such. But you can’t really argue that the average SAT scores of URM’s in top universities are much lower than the average SAT scores of other matriculants.

Cornell’s in NY and it should actually be DAMN SNOWING IN THE WINTER.

We “don’t get it?”

Quit being so naive. The colleges themselves admit exactly what we’re saying here!

affirmative action is an undenyable factor.

heck, i am technically a URM but wanted to be evaluated only by my stats and accomplishments - on the application where it asks about race I created my own little box that said “human race.”

though, i’m wondering if maybe i should have checked what i really am and tried for HYPS ;)

“That is incorrect. All Ivies use the AI. It’s part and parcel of the Ivy agreement among all league members.”

My mistake. What I should have said is that Cornell is the one Ivy that doesn’t compute AI as a number. Stanford does not use a number either. It’s in A is for Admission and some other book.

TrackBabi,

Princeton University did a study on this; One of the findings is worth mentioning.

SOURCE: <a href=“Ending affirmative action would devastate most minority college enrollment”>Ending affirmative action would devastate most minority college enrollment;

Go figure.

Sorry. Cornell does indeed have a computed number; again, just like every other Ivy. Stanford does not use the AI.

Not what I read, but oh well.

waffle, for some background–http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index.htm

what do I care, as long as Cornell Hockey wins I don’t care if they let someone in with a 1500 on the new SAT and a 2.7/4.0 for the GPA. Kick Crimsons butt and I’ll have fun chucking fish at Crimson’s entire team. If Cornell wins it all I’ll drive up to cambridge and chuck fish at them.

I’ll be mad at life if a Gotti got into Harvard. How messed up is this world. All a Gotti has is the name…even Paris Hilton does things to make money. I haven’t seen a Gotti ever do a single thing besides be an idiot…

collegeconfidential is using “A is for Admission” as its main source. Here is what that book says about academic ranking systems:

“In order to get an idea of how the ranking systems work, let’s look at some representative examples from highly selective colleges…Cornell does not use a numerical ranking system - instead, they invite faculty to evaluate parts of the file.”

Now, this could’ve change since it was written, but that link does have this listed as a source.

Here are the systems for the Ivy League:

Harvard: 1-6
Brown: 1-6
Columbia: 1-5
Cornell: See above
Dartmouth: 1-9
University of Pennsylvania: 1-9
Yale: 1-4
Princeton: 1-5

lol wow my post sounded mean, but I really do want to know how he got in. Anyone watch the show and actually see him being smart? I watched it once and saw them all being idiots and that’s all I ever hear about when I hear their names (which isn’t exactly a daily event).
