^ Exactly. 32 coming in + 12 /semester * 8 semesters = 32+96 = `128

You have assumed that spiderman managed to get 32 AP units - at least 8 AP courses with scores of 4 or 5. Considering his current “easiest possible major” ambitions, I have my doubts about that…

You’d be surprised what not living at home, combined with ease of access to alcohol and enough parties, especially in the Greek system, will do to even the best high school scholars. This happens at every college and university.

:) I actually wouldn’t be surprised at all. That’s why they need a lame mom here to lecture them! ;)

I’m not sure that most people come in with 32 units these days. IB kids can’t even bring in 32 units. But I know many people who took AP classes who didn’t come in with 32 units, many with 24 or less (and this is when they even took 3 for elective credit).

As long as you’re lecturing alamemom, make sure they major in something that can actually lead to a productive role in society, which will probably require a major that exceeds the 128 unit minimum.

Thank you guys for the comments. But first of all, I don’t have an AP courses. Second, I’m a transfer student to USC from a CC. I have about 74 semester units by the end of Fall 2010. Please help me more :)

Since we were talking about units per semester… as a transfer student, you have to earn at least 64 of your units at USC, so over two years you should try to average 16 per semester. http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1011/Transferring2011.pdf

Yes alamemom, I know that because they want your $, so you gotta stay there for 2 years…ughhhh…Anyways, I’m still looking for an easy undergrad. major that’s related to health sciences pre-requisite…Honestly, I am thinking of taking SUMMER school at USC and get my bachelors in 3 semesters, that way I don’t waste time. But I don’t know if Financial Aid would cover the summer tuition too or not…?

For the most part financial aid does not extend to summer session, though the Pell grant has recently been changed a bit to add a summer option - but it would only be 1/3 of the total Pell and wouldn’t make much of a dent. Cal Grants can be used for summer, but such use directly reduces the amount you get the following year.

Presidential and Trustee scholars have an “exceptional funding” optional available that can be applied to summer (just mentioning in case others looking in might be interested).

There is also an academic achievement award for students with high GPAs and either multiple majors or major/minor combos: they can apply to take up to 20 units per semester without additional charge if they need those units to complete their programs of study, but it does not apply to summer session.

alamemom, thanks a lot for the above info. But do you know how can I apply for Cal Grants & Pell Grants…thanks

If you are already enrolled at USC and do not have a Cal Grant, you are not eligible for Cal Grant - you would have had to apply as a high school senior or before you transfered to a 4-year.

The Pell Grant is awarded using the FAFSA on a sliding scale to applicants with EFCs from $0 to $5,273 [FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) http://www.ifap.ed.gov/dpcletters/attachments/P1003PellPaymentSchedules.pdf

Thanks again, but I think I can still apply to Cal Grants because I grad. high school in 2009, and I’m going to USC 2010…because I read you can apply within a year from the graduation .

Well, you know best. I certainly don’t know a thing about financial aid…

You have an interesting high school! Graduation in September of 2009???

LOL…not really. I grad. in June of course. Whatever, I guess no Cal Grants for me :(

spiderman–do you actually want to attend USC for the excellent education offered? It hardly seems likely since you want to get out as fast as you can, in any major that has the easiest grades, with no mention of your true passions or academic interests.

You insult USC’s 64 units taken at the university requirement, stating it is because USC simply wants to get your money, but could the rule instead be in place to protect an excellent school from students who would like the USC diploma without actually attending many classes and doing the work required to succeed in USC’s curriculum?

Perhaps it’s time to stop asking for accomplices here to help you get state money (heavens!) to attend a school you don’t want to spend time at taking classes you have no interest in.

calm down. Or better yet, why are you ****ed off?

I agree 100% with madbean. (madbean, you always do such a great job of really summing things up - thanks.)

Excellent post mad bean.

agree with madbean…good job…keep it up…im proud of u…god bless you…it was my fault choosing USC, as you stated. good job again.
