What is there to do?

What is there to do in/around Stony Brook?

Depends there are tons of things to do, what are your interests?

I’m interested in museums, musicals, and symphonies. I’m also interested in trying out racquetball to lose some weight. Also, do many people bring xboxes to SBU?

Well, Staller Center for the Arts is probably the best place for you. There are tons of things that go on there, everything that you mentioned above and more, I believe, but could be wrong. I know I went to see the orchestra play there, and they were amazing.

There are racquetball courts inside the indoor sports complex for anyone to use. There should be a club, if not there are a lot of people you can play with.

There are a lot of people who bring gaming systems here. My roommate brought his xbox, so did a lot of my friends. I’ve seen Wii’s, Xbox’s, N64’s, etc.

Anything else you want to know?

Thanks a lot for the answers:) Do you know about study abroad? I want to go to China and take a semester over there. Would that be possible? Also, how much does a train ticket cost to go to NYC?

I know there is study abroad, how you can do it, and where you go, I have no idea. It’s possible, I don’t know about China though, probably there is one there. Chris can give a better answer. Usually people go during their Junior/Senior year, but I don’t know if there is a mandatory time. I believe you have to go to the campus your Freshman year.

The tickets are 9.50 from Stony Brook to Penn Station. OFF PEAK is what you are looking for, usually. On Peak is like for Holidays and rush, I think… Just worry about OFF PEAK. Also if you are taking it, make sure to buy your ticket outside. It costs more if you buy it on the train. The trip is about 1 and a half hours. But Stony Brook students can get discounted tickets at the SAC, I believe, at the beginning of each month. They run out fast though.

Thanks a lot for the link, I’ll bookmark it

Highly, highly recommended.

Chris

Would I be able to take beginner piano lessons on campus?

Probably through a music club or class, or just find someone to help you out.

Absolutely. Contact the music department and they’ll help set you up.

Chris

My roomate brought his PS3 and sometimes we would hook it up tothe big screen TV are the dorm lounge. Pretty cool.

Yeah the lounges are cool and you can hook up a lot of things, or just watch movies with friends.

So would you say it’s more of a party school, or more of a relaxed environment where everyone gathers around in the lounge playing video games/watching movies? Or is there a balance?

Though I assume it just depends on what crowd you’re friends with, I guess…
