What is University of Chicago going to do in regards to restrictions on international students?

Not sure this decision changes anything for first-time students, however. If someone opts for online learning or is attending a school that is only offering online format for the time being, that might further complicate efforts to get a visa.

A column in today’s WSJ said that the Immigration office will be shut down in a few weeks unless Congress votes them emergency funding.

To stay afloat, USCIS asked Congress for $1.2 billion in emergency funding. Without it, the agency says it would have to furlough 13,400 employees.

There has been no indication that funding will arrive in time, and USCIS knows it. Federal law dictates that agencies must give employees 30 days notice before a furlough; by July 2 USCIS sent all its notices out, informing employees that Aug. 3 was the furlough’s target date.
