Don’t waste money on college, get your CDL, then drive tractor trailers of equipment through dangerous areas in the Middle East for American contractors. You’ll make $150,00+ per year for as long as you can hack it…
Investment Banking Analysts and Management Consultants with just a bachelor degree make well over $100K/y total compensation in major cities first year out of college but often work 80+ hrs/week
RNs in the bay area make more than that starting out.
Reread my post. Initial pay isn’t great but a few years in it can be $300k/year especially if you fly international. Direct info from Delta pilot. He also mentioned that they’re shortening the number of hours needed to jump from regional to long haul pilot. Not sure I like that idea. There are some jobs I like to see gray hair.
@publisher - I’m so out of it; what exactly is data analytics? how’s it used in business? trying to learn something new today. thanks
@bgbg4us : From a quick goggle search:
“Data Analytics” is a process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions and supporting decision making.
In today’s business world, data analysis plays a role in making decisions more scientific and helping businesses operate more efficiently.
Some leading universities in this area are the University of Mississippi & the University of Virginia.
Making $100K+ in medicine is very different from making $100K+ in IT.
Highly talented 22-year olds with a CS degree were making $100K+ starting around 2010, and it’s only gone up from there. In contrast, making $100K+ in medicine doesn’t happen until at least the late 20s, and after typically spending more than $200K for the medical degree. While the typical doctor makes more than the typical IT worker, all bets are off when we are talking about the truly talented group in either field.
But of course, you were asking about other fields. Some finance jobs start off around $100K as well, but you will work hard for those jobs.
Most college grads start in the 40-60k bracket. Specialized engineers, IT will be 65-85. CS and target/finance or math will usually be higher but you must take into account cost of living.
but I’m not interested in medicine or IT
Sounds like the math and science areas (profitable area) are not an area of study for this student.
OPs previous post mentioned pilot.
Agree that current salaries for new hires are generally not at $100k.

Underwater welder. Actuary might be close.
I was talking to an airline pilot recently. He said they can’t find enough people to replace all the ones that are retiring. Starting salary isn’t great but a few years later it’s well over $100k, especially international routes.
This reminded me that air traffic controllers make some bank, like $100,000-$150,000/ year. But maybe $50,000 +/- to start out.
Also, I looked up starting teacher salaries here locally and teachers, depending on education level (BA, BA+ x units, MA, etc.), can start making $60,000-$80,000 plus bonuses for various jobs such as “hard to recruit,” which may mean math and/or special education teachers. You get to $100,000 pretty quickly, maybe 3-4 years.
