The new macbooks are even more outrageously expensive than the previous versions and continue to not allow memory upgrades. Standard ports are disappearing requiring more specialized Apple accessories. People keep continuing to pay a premium for the smooth OS aesthetics so I guess the overpriced sales model is working.
We ended up getting the MacBookAir for D for Xmas and she absolutely loves it. I think it will be a great college computer for her. We did not get the new model, but the basic MacBookAir for 1K. As far as storage, this version still has the standard ports and it’s easy to back up photos, etc to make room for more - I figure once or twice a year we can dump music/video/photos onto our storage units. I’ll try to remember to check back in next year to confirm if my assessment was accurate!
MacBooks are very common for college students. Theyre expensive but easy to use. Apple really doesn’t innovate much, though, because they know they have a loyal customer base. They don’t have laptops with finger print scanners, touch screens, and lots of other features common on windows laptops. I have an HP that I really enjoy, i think it’s an envy. I also have a surface that I love because it’s so portable but can do everything a computer can, though I have only used it for schoolwork minimally. I don’t really know if MacBooks are worth it because technology wise not much has changed in years.
We are Mac family. I have Mac Air and the girls have Macbook. We used have Dell and we often got death of blue screen. The girls used to call me at work about various issues with their Dell, but since we switched to Mac we haven’t had many issues. My current employer gave me a Lenovo. Few weeks ago I couldn’t wake it up from sleep. I tried to push the start button, took the external battery out and put it back in. I googled for a solution, finally I tried to stick a very small pin through a tiny hole in the back to re-start and it fixed it. Really?!! Sheesh. So, I stick with Mac.
Summer is the time for computer deals. Usually frugal son now has the money to spend and did buy a very large monitor a year or so ago plus he went to the dark side and uses Apple now (after a long time dissing it). His computer software job (major company developing cutting edge tech) uses both Windows and Apple last I heard. I Love Dell.
Now- if you were asking about H… He has several toys plus a desktop. He went to a class/lecture/… recently that did an Apple/Win10 comparison. Now both have most of the other’s features so not as it was years ago. Desktop, laptop (will replace eventually- I got it several years ago when we were traveling and H had a smallish tablet we both wanted access to at the same time), tablet, Chrome… He tries to find people to give older models to so he can get a new one. He’s waiting for the next version of Microsoft Surface- and probably for lower prices.
