What makes Northwestern so great academically?

urbuddy542 quote: “UIUC engineering admits “on paper” are better students than northwestern’s but northwestern is more prestigious being a elite private school in the midwest”

Not according to data on [Welcome to the ASEE EngineeringK12 Center](http://www.engineeringk12.org) from 2007 on stats related to Engineering Newly Enrolled undergrad students:

SAT Math, middle 50%, UIUC=690-770, NU=710-790
ACT Composite, UIUC=30-34, NU, 31-34
% of Students in Top 25% of High School Class: UIUC=97%, NU=99%

Looks like the undergrad students “on paper” look pretty similar at the two schools…

urbuddy, how can you transfer out of NU if you’re not even an NU student? your stats aren’t competitive and your writing is terrible. sorry to be blunt, but i rather you hear the truth now than be disappointed later.

I heartily agree with kukucachoo that “nick jonas and selena gomez at NU would not be amazing.”

Next thing you know, Miley Cyrus will be at NU too.

nah it’d be cool to have nick jonas and selena gomez since they’re famous and whatnot, just not particularly amazing.

but miley cyrus at NU would definitely blow.

brebueff why are u attacking me? you seem like a complete jerk on cc. May i ask what makes you so perfect? do you hate my name? cause i have no idea why ur being a jerk

attacking? no way. I was just commenting on your writing style, and I’m not the only one who took issue with it. there’s also no easy way to say that if the stats you put up are accurate, you aren’t going to be competitive for northwestern. just saying… apply but don’t get your hopes up too much. you shouldn’t take offense at that.

“What even makes it better than U of I? U of I has way better engineering across the board and it actually HAS an undergraduate business program.”

Arguably, UI is not better in biomedical engineering and in materials science.

Years ago, NU did have an undergraduate business program. It’s just more prestigious to have a world-class graduate business program (Wharton being the exception) or else sneak it in through the back door via the economics dept., like the finance courses at Princeton).

Urbuddy, I can’t believe you even brought up UofI’s business school to compare with NU’s. It’s not ranked 10th, it’s ranked 38th compared to 3rd for Kellogg. Its post-MBA starting median salary is about 20,000 less than Kellogg. It’s a decent school but “falls short of Kellogg” is an understatement.
