I think rimless glasses are aging, funky plastic frames are more youthful.
old - doesn’t understand this one
I think the idea is that younger people don’t buy paper napkins and will just fold a paper towel by each plate.
Whoops, I thought I was being lazy. Instead I’m young!
The other thing about doing sports is that you can look forward to gaining eligibility for new competition divisions as you collect birthdays. For example, some the marathon runners competed in the 90+ division.
- 1 to paper towels instead of napkins. :)
I have to say this sums up what I strive for - LOVE this statement from above:
“Youth, to me, is speed, grace, and energy. It is optimism and “let’s get this done,” rather than “this can’t be done.””
Hand clap.
Also, just did my root touch up and gave myself a little trim. Feeling at least 5 years younger!!!
Age is an attitude, not a number. I really don’t think it matters what you do, as long as you think positively and get out and do.
Although, drinking heavily and smoking ages you like no one’s business
Age IS a number, not offset by attitude. There have always been those who are more lively at every stage in life. You do not appear to be younger just because you’re in tune with a younger generation. Your looks will betray you. We’re talking about looks, not behavior, here.
I am lucky that my now dark blonde hair (so much lighter in my twenties) is slowly losing its color at the temples and hidden by overlying hair. I have enough facial fat so wrinkles are not as apparent and never was a sun worshiper. The short interactions with strangers reveal hair color and wrinkles. Wearing makeup is not the factor- those attempting to cover up lines with heavy cosmetics while some of us never used much and abandoned it all.
Smoking and too much sun plus genetics. btw- I despise shaven heads. Ugly.
It doesn’t matter what you look like- maybe that is a sign of age because it shows a comfort in who you are that is lacking in youth. No longer trying to score a mate, a job, status…
I feel sorry for those who feel the need to use all of those products and procedures to attempt to keep/regain a more youthful appearance. So superficial.
I found my first gray hair on my 18th bday. I have colored my hair since 25. Think about letting it go when I retire, but probably not before then.
The clothes people wear can scream “old” vs “young.” Then again, sometimes people of a certain age have no business wearing certain clothes.
Hmmm in my experience it’s the other way around
Never give up!
Well, I like makeup because it makes me feel good. I like to look good when I am out and about.
Related to old vs. young. A couple of summers ago I was out with my daughter and her friends to a rated r movie. I was in ripped jeans, baseball hat, nike Air Force shoes, and a decent makeup. The boy at the door asked if there was and adult and I said I am the mom. He looked like he didn’t believe me and turned to his coworker who was an older woman. She shook her head, rolled her eyes at him and called him an idiot ?
.
You don’t need to feel sorry for us. We’re happy. ?
I believe the darker your natural skin tone is leads to better and more youthful looking skin tone as you age. I’m always amazed at how youthful some people look relative to their age.
I lost 75 pounds starting 2 years ago. The comment I get repeatedly is how much younger I look.
A realtor was staging our house for sale and asked for our cloth napkins and napkin holders to set the table. She was aghast when we admitted to not having napkins.
Meanwhile W and I are whispering to each other: “Who even uses cloth napkins anymore?”
BTW we’re old-ish. Just never got the memo on cloth napkins, lol
older- used to use bars of hand soap, now I think most have converted to liquid hand soap
younger- liquid hand soap
older- single use plastic water bottles
younger- reusable water bottles
older- lots of makeup
younger- no makeup, just sunblock
older- do people still wear pantyhose?
younger- no pantyhose
Darker skinned people are less likely to get sunburned or have sun-exposure-induced skin damage that is seen as “old”.
From what I have seen (in a part of the US where tap water is universally assumed to be safe to drink), bottled water is a wasteful habit that is widespread across age groups. The US consumes about half as much bottled water as China, but has only about a quarter of the population, so the per person consumption of bottled water is double that of China (where the tap water is generally assumed to be unsafe to drink without boiling it first).
I also think that being in shape is good but too thin ages you. Lots of runners have healthy physiques but the fat loss in the facial area adds age. It’s a balance.
Ive been a age group level Ironman competitor until two years ago. I decided to give my body a rest. My friends and i were in very good shape. Those who focused on running as their strength versus the swimmers looked older. Since stopping I’ve gained a few pounds. The extra 5 to 10 and people have commented on how I appear younger.
Weigh training and cross fit. Is excellent to maintain a youthful look. FWIW.
