What Makes You Feel Young(er)???

Ok @abasket, I’ll bite. Back to what makes us feel younger: I mentioned the fun little car I got. Not only is it a lot zippier and fun to drive than my old mommy- mobile, but I get a lot of looks when I am in it. I know they are looking at the car, not me, but still… that hasn’t happened in a long time.

And while this should make me feel old, I feel young when in the car blasting the music I enjoyed many decades ago: Laura Nyro, Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, etc.

@jym626, re: blasting the music. I feel younger when my teenager and her friends sing songs from my era along with me in the car. This morning it was “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” She thinks our music is so much more fun to dance to than theirs. Lol

Music makes me feel younger.

I love listening to the latest rap/hip-hop. And it also cheers me up during my workouts, since I get depressed about the fact that I can’t lift as much or run as fast as I used to.

I wear shorts year round, so I just feel comfortable and normal in them.

Going out to the movies makes me feel younger.

Finally, “Porsche, there is no substitute.”

I think I play the music loud, @lilmom, because (a)!its a good sound system and (b) my old ears don’t hear so well!
And while a Porsche is certainly fun and sporty, sometimes it seems to be driven by old people trying to be young. (Describes my neighbor). Some of the young folk are liking the more techie cars with low impact on the environment.

Talking about being in shape, it’s probably cheating, but living at mile high definitely helps. I feel a lot of satisfaction when I pass hiking uphill a group of huffing and puffing lowland tourists, and when I’m at sea level, I’m positively flying.

Older people are more likely to have the money to buy expensive sporty cars. Younger people buying sporty cars are more likely to choose less expensive ones than Porsches.

My Hip/Hop Dance class, Hip/Hop music, Spin Class and growing weed. Looking forward to getting new Porsche( Macan or Cayenne) and driving fast !

Being surrounded (and working) with smart young people at work!

We just had a bunch of birthdays in our small group at work. We joked that this place might be the fountain of youth because our (older than us) boss, with his almost 3 decades of working here, looks pretty good for his age and still does active stuff like downhill skiing.

Not sure I agree, @ucbalumnus. There are plenty of young drivers who want a sports car who will spend, even if unwisely, for a high end sportscar.

I live in Silicon Valley. A Porsche not “techie”?

+/- $100,000-250,000 not loaded with tech? What’s the closest car dealership to Facebook HQ? Porsche. They do a pretty good business. :-bd

Maybe in your 'hood. Here, to look young and hip, one needs a Subaru

Another vote for exercise- in my case running and yoga.
Also working and reading keep my mind active.
Clothes that are fashionable.
I try to keep an open mind especially when talking with/ reading about younger people. I enjoy the millennials.

Here it’s a pickup truck! :).

The young people at work don’t act like they think I’m old, so I guess that’s good!

Most people don’t believe that I have a college age kid. I have short hair, slim build and drive a Beemer! I feel better if I work out for the day!

Always running around with workout clothing. DS20 and I were in Home Depot when the customer service guy asked the other respresentive to please help with “this couple”!

That’s a start. How about you? I hope that everyone has at least one thing that comes to mind. Life is too short - stay young!>>>>>>>>>

You know, I’ll soon be 67 and I don’t mind being this age. I am not young, don’t look young, don’t dress young, don’t act young and that’s okay. BTDT. I’ve had a wonderful life.
My fdil’s bridal shower was in my old neighborhood last Saturday. Dh and I met there, dated there, lived there and got married and started our family there. As I was driving up an old familiar road, an old song that just literally illustrated my reminiscing came on the radio. Perfect. It was wonderful and things are wonderful in a different way now.

^^ As long as you’re happy then you’re where you want to be.

My mom still doesn’t admit to acting like 85 so I guess that’s where I get my desire to avoid “old”!

I’m ok with my age, I’m ok with people thinking I’m my age or younger. I’ve not had peopke tell me they think I’m older, but I’d be OK with that as well.

@sushiritto - SV has been FILLED with priuses and Teslas every time I am there

“Here it’s a pickup truck!”

IN my neck of the woods, the fancy pickup trucks are driven (very aggressively and badly, mind you) by middle aged white dudes. Not hip and cool at all.

I like to keep my mind and outlook young but I honestly could care less about trying hard to look young. I embrace that aspect of my age. Wrinkles and gray hair don’t bother me. I was never one to wear makeup, either, though. I personally have no qualms about outward appearances and trying hard to look young rather than feeling comfortable with naturally occurring changes isn’t a big priority for me. I think society places a lot of garbage in our heads about aging and looks and there is a lot of agism in our culture. Screw that. Different strokes I guess.
