Digital subscriptions to WaPO (was my local paper for decades before we moved) and NYT. Lately have become very disappointed with both. WaPO has misleading, “clickbait” headlines as well as lack of good editing. Both papers appear to be slanting coverage in favor of one candidate in order to stir up drama.
I will not be renewing the WaPo and I’m on the fence re: NYT, both of which I’ve subscribed to for years. I really like Apple News and subscribe to several sub stacks - YLE, Andy Borowitz, David Lebovitz, Mark Remy’s Dumb Runner, Connie Schultz.
I read a lot of online news as I’ve stopped watching network TV news. We have subscriptions to WSJ(print for my DH and digital for me) NYT,our local newspaper. I also read online BBC, Reuter and Aljazeera. I like to read different perspectives.
We never watched much TV news. But now that we are retired and have more time, I find it to have too much bias and click bait stories. I’m pleased there are online options.
I pay for the NYT, New Yorker, Boston Globe, and The Atlantic. My H gets WSJ. We listen to NPR and sometimes I’ll check online for something I didn’t catch on air.
Can anyone explain what a substack is to me and how it differs from reading an online newspaper?
Substacks are basically the latest iteration of blogs slash newsletters. Some are pretty fancy and look almost like magazines. They’re generally run by one individual concerning some particular topic. Most I subscribe to are writing centered, a few are political opinion. Some are entirely free and some have partial free content and partial paywalled. I pay for a couple but follow overall maybe ten or so.
Easy to go down some rabbit holes here…
