What "Perks" Do You Have At Work???

I once knew someone that worked at a small, private investment bank in New York in the 1970s. They got daily shoe shines and an afternoon cigar break.

I’m another one who works from home. Short commute and I can work in my PJs if I want. We added on a big home office with huge windows, so I can look out over the woods.

Summer before last, I took a temporary assignment at a downtown engineering firm. Reminded me why I will never take a permanent job with anybody else.

BTW, the downside from working from home is that you can work all the time and there’s the temptation to do so. The other problem in working at home is that there is so much food at home.

I prefer to come into the office everyday as I get the buzz at the office which you don’t get as easily if you work remotely. The folks that work remotely on a regular basis, come over to me and ask me what has been happening in the office.

Hmm, the food aspect is one of the reasons I like working from home. I can just quickly make a sandwich and cup of soup. I tended to go out too often when I worked in an office - expensive and fattening.

I think it would be harder to work from home if it was just me. I enjoy working with DH - we’re a good team. I also like the fact that we’re together almost all of the time.

It’s a pain in the neck to go out for food at my office due to local traffic conditions.

I record what I eat in LiveStrong MyPlate and my daily calories are around 1,200 when I’m in the office and about 2,200 when I’m at home for the day. I’ve dropped 16 pounds this year so it’s an approach that can certainly work for some.

We have dishwashers in our kitchens too and I think that the cleaning folks run it in the morning but very few use it. Most in the office bring their own food in GlassLock containers.

BCEagle91, I thought you were at a good weight coming into this year. No?

I can work in my pajamas. (self employed)

I can work naked. ;)

Well, I’ve been out of the work force for the past 20 years. I’m a stay-at-home mom. However, I did have access to a fantastic on-site gym in the mid 80’s. We were allowed to go there during work hours.

^^ TMI  I hope you don’t use Scype for work!

I get free flu shots, we have kitchen stocked with good coffee, tea, etc., monthly “events” usually involving food, gym in the building and lots of company logo wear. The person who orders the logo wear has decent taste and buys good quality.

dstark: I confess that I always associated that with your screen name.

I can go to the bathroom whenever I want.
Eat whenever I want. Wear jeans and tennis shoes always.

H has a gym, but it got too crowded so he stopped going. He works with nice people/great team. Only drives 3 miles to work–no highway/rushhour commuting. Gets several “free” trips a year–often to exciting places like. . .Baltimore. And they give him lots of shirts, jackets, bags, etc. with the company logo.

I did that once. I was on a global conference call - it was 11pm in Japan and I was getting ready for bed, got called out of the shower. I felt really weird! :D

I can listen to books at my job for free. I absolutely love it. Rediscovered my love of books this way :).

oldfort: I certainly spend less on clothes now, but my hobbies have become more expensive, I fear.

“dstark: I confess that I always associated that with your screen name.”

Atomom… I love your comment. :)

I work naked often.
