What’s a good pre-med school?

I have nothing but admiration for my GP who graduated state college as a first-gen and didn’t even enter med school until he was 30 y/o by which point he’d had a lifetime of experience. He also spent the next twenty years paying off his med school debt. And, yes, it probably affected the types of jobs he could accept and how soon he could hang out his own shingle. But, the bottom line is he was still a doctor and as far as I can tell doesn’t harbor any bitter feelings about his lot in life. On the contrary, I think he is having the time of his life.

Thank you ?. I have siblings that are going to college after me and I don’t want to be a burden to my parents for undergrad.

Not sure what this means? My BIL did a combined MD/PhD program and has about 180k in medical school debt. My sister pretty much supported him financially throughout his schooling. He is now a pediatric anesthesiologist and making very good living, enough to pay off his medical school debt in 5-7 years and buy a house.

For reference:

Community college (2 years)

UC Santa Barbara undergrad degree

NY Medical School (MD/PhD)

Columbia Children’s Hosptial (residency)

@CottonTales is referring to the fact that all MSTP MD/PhD programs are fully funded by federal grants --that is, students in MSTP programs have 100% of their tuition (med school + grad school) paid for and they also receive a modest living expenses stipend (typically ~$30K/year) during both the med school and grad portion of the program.

Although there are only a handful of non-MSTP MD/PhD programs, even those still pay for tuition and living expenses for MD/PhD students. Non-MSTP program are funded by grants from academic and industry sources. (drug & biotech companies mostly.)
