What’s my UC GPA

!
I’m having trouble calculating my UC GPA because of two reasons

1- idk what grading system my school uses

2- my schools academic calendar is split into two semesters (fall/spring) and you take separate courses each semester. However, within each semester there are two grading periods. Refer to my transcript and I think you’ll understand. So I don’t know what to put in for GPA calculators online for things like “amount of A’s earned”, etc.

In conclusion- 4 grades per quarter times 2 quarters in a semester times two semesters per year=16 letter grades per year but I don’t know how many count for UC calculations given that your grades for each class reset once a semester. And obviously I have two semesters per year at my school

Any help would be appreciated!

P.S- diagonally crossed out boxes are freshman year grades, so not use them. Everything else is OK. Taking fine art requirement senior year, also 5 AP classes and an Honors class next year so my senior year load is very rigorous

@Gumbymom

Your system appears to be equivalent to a semester system in which 8 classes are taken per semester. Each class listed on your transcript shows 5 credit units, which would be the same as a normal semester class. They are just arranged differently from how they would be in a typical semester system (that is, in each semester, it looks like you are taking only 4 subjects but you get a whole year of credit for each one).

So to calculate your GPA, I would simply count up the grades you received (number of As, number of Bs), ignoring +/- as that is not relevant, and also ignoring the way that the classes are grouped on your transcript. Then use the calculator.

Also note that only A-G courses count towards the UC GPA, so you wouldn’t count your PE class or “Teachers Aide” in the GPA. You can look at the A-G Course List to double check which classes at your high school are A-G courses, and which ones additionally count as UC Honors courses.

Do I count all of them? I have two grades for each class on my transcript

Yes, I would count all of the grades listed on your transcript. Just don’t include non-A-G classes like PE.

Also, I’m trying to calculate manually now, UC’s website says “Give yourself an extra point for each semester of a UC honors-level course, with a maximum of 8 points between 10th and 11th grades”. However, there are two grades per semester on my transcript. as you can see. So do I give myself an extra point for both times that I got an A in the honors class during the semester (For example, Grade 11 spring I got A’s in APUSH and AP Bio in both grading periods during the semester, would I give myself two extra points bc I got A’s twice in those AP Classes during the semester despite those A’s being in separate grading periods during the semester?) SORRY IF THIS SOUNDS CONVOLUTED

I just used rogerhub and put in the following

School uses semester grading system

26 A grades
2 B grades
0 C/D/F grades

14 grades for honors classes

I know I’ve been on your back the whole day but could you look at my transcript one more time and see if this is correct?

Not all “Honors” designated classes are UC approved so make sure those are listed on the linked A-G course list by @tamagotchi for your HS. Honors English for many HS’s is not UC approved for the extra Honors points but Honors Chem is usually UC approved.

Yes, I have checked that already. Thank you for reminding me! May I please pm you my transcript (with all info covered up ofc) so we can discuss GPA calculations?

@uchopeful3, just keep in mind that the UCs have holistic admission, and GPA is just one of the factors that they use in making decisions. Knowing your UC GPAs can be useful for estimating whether you are in the range of GPAs typically admitted to a campus… but students with somewhat lower GPAs still have a chance, and on the other hand even students with the highest possible GPA may be denied.

It’s going to be a long while before UC decisions are released in the spring. Of course you’ll want to do your best on the PIQs and the rest of the application, but I also hope you can relax a bit and enjoy your summer and senior year :slightly_smiling_face:
