<p>However, the Caltech admissions committee doesn’t consider gender relevant to “opportunities,” at the very least for domestic students. (Perhaps if they were informed by the applicant of gender-based discrimination in certain other countries it would come into play.) There’s a huge backlash from the students, particularly women, whenever the idea of MIT-style “affirmative action” comes up, which is about every four years. In order to promote diversity, Caltech instead recruits women and other minorities more heavily both before and after admissions.</p>
<p>(I can say this semi-officially, or rather with a fairly high degree of certainty, as a member of the student financial aid committee. More relevantly as a student for whom this was a major consideration in choosing a school.)</p>
<p>It’s already past deadline, but you guys should definitely have GT as part of your safety/match list, especially since early action applicants qualify for some special scholarships at GT.</p>
<p>No, you all should come to Caltech, regardless of Georgia Tech’s offerings.</p>
<p>When I applied to college a few years ago, I filled out two college applications.</p>
<p>One for Caltech, and one for the UC system (I’m from SoCal) and I checked off the boxes for UCLA, UCB, and UCI.</p>
<p>So, for that count, the UCs were my safety schools.</p>
<p>Funny thing though, UCLA rejected me. ;-)</p>

was caltech the only private you applied for? or did you just get in EA?</p>

<p>Caltech was the only private school I applied for. My home is very close to Caltech, and it was essentially the only place I really wanted to go to for college.</p>

<p>I’m suprised people consider Harvey Mudd a safety school, at the moment I might even chosse it over Calthech. I’m also applying to Olin, MIT, Johns Hopkins, Stanford, U Washighton and WPI. The latter two I consider my safeties.</p>
<p>Oh and I forgot to mention Carnagie Mellon.</p>
<p>Now that early round results have been announced, I hope everyone applying to Caltech has remembered to apply to a sure-bet safety college. Don’t most of you have offers of admission in hand by now?</p>
<p>University of Michigan Ann Arbor was my safety, which I got in quite some time ago, and I was going to apply to CMU but now that I got in caltech early, I’m done with my apps.</p>

<p>The people here who consider Mudd a safety are deluded. Your list is solid and your safeties could actually be safeties.</p>
