My daughters bank there too.

My DS3 has earned quite a lot of cash through several science fairs. About $1500. 3 awards. Some of his peers have earned far more than that: $6000+ plus trips to Siemens, INTEL et al.

DS2 earned a $500 scholarship that only required an essay. Might have been a school thing. The recognition alone was wonderful, and after the struggle for him to write that essay, he promised never to complain again! (Let’s see).

DS1 applied to many FastWeb scholarships, at least 10. Not a word. I really wondered if they were legit. He got $10,000 merit, renewable.

Will second the local science fairs. Around here, there are a number of organizations that offer small awards as part of the fair. S brought home $800 for four hours of standing with his poster (which he had already done for other competitions and for school).

Another suggestion: if you win a big award after you’ve already been accepted at a college, LET THAT SCHOOL KNOW. We feel S came by some scholarship $$ because he won a big award and the school saw him as an even more attractive fish to catch.

Laptops as awards are also a great thing. Saved the Bank of Mom and Dad a couple of grand!!

My kids each won enough local scholarships that they were able to purchase MacBook Pros.

One of my kids won a scholarship through Fastweb that didn’t come through until after college started!

TheDad- where can we access the application for your National Bank of Dad scholarship?

With one of my DDs we spent serious time trying to find and apply to many varied awards. The best ones were the kind or ‘regular’ ones- Byrd, University merit awards- for instance Alumni or other campus groups offer merit awards for which you must apply. Since she was a very successful athlete I had he do everything else we could find from Sammi to others on Fastweb, none of those went anywhere.
