Hmmm… well our NC school of choice does not have engineering… so just for the moment my defensive claws or private dart throwing will be kept hidden.
Everyone in NC knows what school in NC is populated by kids from New Jersey.
?
We folks from CA don’t.
Duque.
Oh good.
We are not considering that one but are looking into Wake.
Does it have a similar vibe?
@lalalander111 I recall that the Wake Forest girls dress up, do their hair and make up daily rather than the more typical college students way of practically wearing pajamas to class.
It was my observation that many/some students at certain NC schools get a little dressed up… even the boys. My older D commented ( when visiting) on how they dress more formally than what she is used to. Of course this may not apply to the “mystery” school where a good number are from NJ. We/us northerners like our pj’s.,
It’s a southern thing in general.
It’s a southern thang and a large segment of the female population at the school 13 miles west of the aforeunnamed (should be a word) school definitely does and to a smaller extent some of the males as well. The technical school further east from the aforeunnamed school is generally much more relaxed dress wise. Many at the aforementioned school 13 miles west of the aforeunnamed school think that the standard dress at the technical school further east is overalls and hip boots so as not to worry about the cow patties littering campus (or various brickyards).
you need a technical degree to understand that post.
I second the call for more pjs and fewer patent-leather pumps on campus. Definitely no make up. Though from the south, I must have lived in the north too long.
@Dolemite, you seem to be the NC expert…Is it true that at the aforeunnamed & aforementioned schools the students tend to either drive, or aspire to drive, expensive German sedans, while those representing the technical school prefer to drive anything with an orange triangle on the back?
Reminds me of a 7-foot basketball player, the center of our college team, who showed up to our final exam wearing bright yellow pajamas. What a picture. Like Big Bird.
@moooop If only they could drive. As they say at the aforementioned school - they no longer have Driver’s Ed at the technical school - the mule died. They also no longer have Sex Education - the mule died.
In case you missed the student car ownership article in the Chronicle, here is the link:

@lalalander111 Wake is completely different. Go and see.
@prezbucky Not too many students venture west of 15-501, so they are usually not too familiar with the forest. Only if you approach the campus from the west on 751 do you begin to get a vague sense of just how vast the land holdings are.
For us, it was Northwestern. At that time, they have a very poor visiting center in a small house without air conditioning. It is very hard to find parking due to the constructions going on and that was 4 years ago. Although it is a great school and they offer very good financial aid, my D declined the offer mainly because of the bad impression during the campus visit.
I visited Northwestern about two decades ago during one severe winter. I thought I was visiting Siberia. It did leave a totally different impression when I last visited my boys during one summer a couple of years ago.
Is that car article for real and not meant to be satiresque ala The Onion? Pretty sad.
@MomofWildChild How interesting! I went in thinking Lawrence was way too regional and came out feeling just the opposite. What time of year was your visit? My S is a member of the Class of 2017 FB page and I noticed many committed students from both coasts as well as our home state of Texas. There may not be representation from all 50 states, but it was more geographically diverse than I expected.
No room for defending or sweet talk, back to the hate and complaining please.
Cal Poly, the campus could not make up for the horrific dorms. The red brick dorms had 3 in a room and the gap between the two sets of beds looked to be 10 inches if I am generous in my estimation. The gray building dorms when you enter the campus look like a jail or abandoned factory from the 40s, couldn’t decide which, but they looked and smelled worse on the inside. At night, between the hotel and dinner, we realized that stretch of Hwy 1 is a big black hole - it was actually freaky how there were no signs of life - peaceful and serene during the day but too spooky/twilight zone-ish and just n-o-t-h-i-n-g at night there.
@blueskies2day is right!
All love and no hate gets this thread nowhere,
