What school was unexpectedly your least favorite when you visited?

@mamalion Apparently you missed this part of my Boston critique: “…there isn’t a 90-degree corner anywhere but the Back Bay.” And yes, I lived in be Boston area for the better part of a decade. But thanks for proving my point.

I want to sit next to @Lindagaf at an IRL CC meetup.

To her point about shower sex, did anyone google the Huff Post piece about clogged shower pipes to see the fake notices?

@Dolomite I believe in transubstantiation but not in breaking the law. When Catholics break the law we get Cardinal Law of Boston! And underage drinking. Pardon me for wanting to follow Indiana law, and wanting my sons to do the same. Last time I checked two consenting 18 year olds can have sex in Indiana but 18 year olds cannot drink alcohol. But not apparently according to Notre Dame, they have it all mixed up! . Its a ball of was at Notre Dame. I will not send my kids into that mess called being a Catholic the Notre Dame way: guilt about sleeping over but BREAK THE LAW and HAVE YOUR GIN! Wow. is all I can say.

@Coloradomama I have no earthly idea what you’re trying to say. Policing underage drinking is a fools’ errand at most schools.

And ND is not Jesuit.

@coloradomom I think most states have a law that allows for tiny amounts of alcohol intake by underage people for religious purposes, so you can rest easy about wine at Mass in the 200 (sic) churches on campus.

I’m not sure making guys leave women’s dorms at midnight is the same as “prohibiting” carnal relations…It might look like it to you, but just because ND doesn’t provide the birth control, lotions, scented candles, Barry White music, and turndown service that some other colleges provide, it doesn’t mean they prohibit it.

@moooop Technically, engaging in premarital sex is a violation of ND’s student code of conduct. Students caught in violation of that policy have to go through the process for code of conduct violations, and consequences can include being kicked out of residential life for a semester. We know students who were kicked out of the dorm promptly, and had to scramble to find short term housing until they could reapply for residential life, though this was 10 or so years ago. I have no current information whether the no-sex rule is still as strictly enforced. We know a number of recent and current ND students – the consensus they share is that students of both gender have overnight guests but that parietals are more strictly enforced in the women’s dorms so it is trickier, and riskier.

ND generally seems to tolerate moderate underage drinking, but any small amount of marijuana means a student is kicked out of the University – not just the dorm – for the semester and has to reapply. We know several students who didn’t believe that was the case, and their families were not happy to learn that it is strictly enforced.

@Lindagaf lol, I hear you about this thread being about hating schools but instead of contributing what you hated about a particular school you instead want to turn the topic back to shower sex??

Shower sex is much more interesting than religion, don’t you think? But I will settle for hating on colleges. Anyone have a new hatefest to add? Something that can top yurts and scrounge tables?

Well… I know that the U of Maryland is an excellent school with a lot of opportunities ( sorry I know that this is not in the spirit of this thread). However… when we entered the dorm, the smell was so vile that I gagged and had to leave the building. It would have been fine if the tour guide addressed this somehow ( ignore the smell… The football team just got back from practice, etc) but he never mentioned it. It really put a damper on the visit, at least for me.

Sorry, moop, I did miss read you, but there are lots of 90 degree angles in Boston: the South End, Pondside JP, lots of Roxbury, Roslindale, West Roxbury, etc. I understand the fun of exaggeration, but the geography, like the use of middle fingers, is varied.

Boston is a nightmare for GPS driving. Tunnels block gps signal so when you pop out you have to move like 4 lanes over within about a block to make the turn, then the M*ssholes won’t let you in, so you miss the turn and next thing you’re headed for Plymouth trying to find a place to turn around.

I drove in all 5 boroughs of NYC from age 18, commercially for awhile, and that’s MUCH easier than Boston, IMO

Sorry that wasn’t about a college but for funsies I’ll attach it to Northeastern.

Back to our regularly scheduled programming…
Catholic U was the last school we visited on an epic summer college road trip, so we were probably a bit loopy to begin with and after a very, very, very underwhelming info session, we did the college tour bingo thing on the tour. The guide was very sweet and peppy, but after countless tours we would give each other the eye roll when the bingo terms came up (campus blue light, inter library exchange, a cappella groups). Then the mother of all bingo terms - Study Abroad!!. But this time the study abroad choices included a semester at sea. Which for some is undoubtedly appealing, but for my D, the thought of studying for 4 months aboard a ship got her seasick right then and there! And for some reason my younger D who was tagging along, got the idea that is was aboard a submarine which really freaked her out. (it’s not really a sub btw). We still laugh about that one today! and school was promptly dropped from the list.

RPI----long hike from parking to the ‘admissions office’ which had a sign up directing us to the ‘campus center’ where we had to sit around for 45 minutes before it started. Then saw the great signs in the ladies restrooms about how not to get STD’s while away on spring break. No thanks.

Anybody at RPI: please make a copy of those bathroom signs and fax/email/mail them to Carleton.

“Its not a JESUIT approach is all I can say.”

Excellent hating on ND by ColoMom. I don’t recall ND getting the ding on this thread previously. Another box checked!

I’d agree that if you want your Catholic college with the sex and drugs dialed up, you should be looking at Georgetown (which is Jesuit, i.e., barely Catholic) not ND (Holy Cross order). Those Domers are so uptight about everything (except drinking).

Yeah, but at least they probably don’t need an Assistant Associate Vice Provost for STD Notification and Eradication.

Speaking of Georgetown, I read an article somewhere that said their dorms have a rat problem. Anybody know anything about that?

^^ I heard it was mice.

Parent of a current ND student, can confirm that: parietals are more strictly enforced in women’s dorms, D has heard of nobody being kicked off campus for having sex, alcohol is tolerated, but more in male dorms than female, pot is an absolute no-no.

In the spirit of this thread: D absolutely hated first visit to ND. She was car-sick. Ultimate destination was Chicago, which was much more alluring. We sat through info session where the presenter was good, but when the kids leading the tours were introduced, they all seemed douchy in their own way. We bailed.

“Yeah, but at least they probably don’t need an Assistant Associate Vice Provost for STD Notification and Eradication.”
Actually, I’d bet a bunch of $$ they really do but the whole sex thing is so uptight and prudish there I’m sure they go elsewhere to deal with it.

Plenty of rats in DC so I wouldn’t be surprised (and I’m not just talking about the politicians! )
