What school was unexpectedly your least favorite when you visited?

We live in Philadelphia and Canadian Goose are not a thing here. Not among high school students or college age freshman. Maybe in the suburbs.

I LIVE on LI and had never heard of Canada Goose (Geese?) jackets until this post. How about Lands End - reasonably priced, many colors and warm.

@amom2girls I am in the suburbs of Philly and the only Geese we see are in the pond at Haverford college.

@doschicos You are correct about the sports at CMU- it just wasn’t a good fit for my D.

@psycholing Haha
Thanks! I didn’t want to speak for the suburbs;) My daughter has a lot of friends in private schools on the mainline and has not noticed them (and she notices clothes, lol) So, probably not a NE thing. Maybe they are specific to certain schools or areas.

CNBC recently had the CEO of Canada Goose in for an interview. They had a camera crew walk outside their NY studio to scan the streets for people wearing their coats. They were everywhere

The only thing I’ll say about Canada Goose is that some people have more money than sense. A friend of mine told me she had a line on some for “only $700.” Nope.

My NY friends who mentioned the Canada Goose jackets are both top level corporate attorneys. They work in Manhattan and live in Brooklyn. So it may be more of a thing with wealthy adults and fashionistas than students. No idea. I don’t visit them in the winter and if you wore something like that down here, you’d burst into flames.

Has anyone been to Providence College? Looks nice on paper.

To think, we used thing North face was expensive. You can buy 10 North face coats for the price of a Canada goose.

Ya, North Face is becoming the Members Only of the 80s.

I am guilty of indulging my kids, but Canada Goose is a bridge too far for me. My kids would complain about the cold even if they had one, since they never zipper their jackets.

Canada Goose is big at boarding schools and NE LACs. I also felt like I saw more people wearing them than not wearing them both in Boston and NYC. Glad we live in FL now so my kids aren’t begging me for them like I begged for my first North Face back in the early 90’s!

@goodjob - on paper and in the Princeton review books I was sold on Providence College for my oldest son! Then our family of six went to visit and not one of us liked it. It just seemed OK. And from what I understand they give very little aid so that made it all the more unappealing. Additionally the surrounding area around the campus was rundown and felt unsafe. Needless to say a week later while listening to the news there was a shooting that had occurred right outside the campus. We have now visited around 30 schools and that visit stands out as the one that all 6 of us ( two adults, three teens and an 11 year old) felt so strongly about.
However I know a lot of people love the school so this is just our humble opinion.
We drove up later that day to see Boston College and all loved it

I first saw the jackets popping up at boarding schools about 7-8 years ago. If they are filtering down to “the masses”, those prep school kids will be moving on to some other overpriced garments soon.

Add me to the list of those unwilling to spend that much on a jacket for myself or my kids.

I’ve thrown shade at my alma matter in the past, but never at the Scotty Dog or our Plaid colors. Anyone that remembers Spaceballs and reaching ludicrous speed will proudly wear the plaid! Where else can you go to school in the US and hear bagpipes in the distance while walking back to the dorms from class.

I have an old barn jacket. I do have to admit that son purchased a Canada Goose jacket with some of the money he earned from last summer’s internship.

I thought I posted this earlier, but it apparently saved as a draft

In response to canine mascots, I think the tartan scottie is adorable!

As for bulldogs, Yale rolled the new Handsome Dan just after announcing EA admissions for the class of 2021. He’s not quite as cute as he was when he was a puppy.

And Stanford’s (admittedly unofficial) mascot is a tree that is re-designed for every new class. At a recent basketball game, there were the four class trees with the incoming sapling dancing around and doing their thing

As for Canada Goose (or North Face any other kind of trendy) jackets, ummm, no. I’m with @techmom99 – Lands End is good enough for me!

I just glad that – except for the occasional trip back east that I try to avoid in winter (I happily got out of Dodge yesterday before today’s latest nor’easter!) – I no longer have a need for any down coats, but I would never in my wildest dreams shell out $$ for a Canada Goose jacket.

Does having a little logo on a down coat make you look any less like the Michelin Man?

I did find it amusing to see all of the down stroller burrito babies on the streets of NYC.

Anyone visited UT Austin? How is it like except “crowded”? Please share findings you got.

I liked UT Austin. I like an urban campus. Lots of it was under construction when we looked last year at this time. My son did not like it, while he also likes urban, he did not feel it had a border around the campus so you knew where the city started and campus ended. He was comparing it to USC, GaTech and UCLA. The dorm buildings were like small cities which I thought was cool. I also ate the best tacos of my life which moved it up for me but not him.
