What those of us here already know . . .

^^These are just a handful of specific people who my son knows. There is one other boy from his club soccer team who is at an Ivy this year who had a 4.0 GPA and a 19-something on the SAT. My own son did score over 2100 on his SAT’s, but his GPA is a bit lower, but we have been told this is looked at in the context of his high school…I wish I knew the specifics on this. At our meeting with an Ivy coach, he was told to aim for an AI of 200. I do imagine that mens basketball and soccer have a bit lower AI standard than sports like fencing, rowing, track, etc.

“come compromises” in my post above should read “some compromises”

One Ivy told D they were trying to set up a meeting for her with the President of the university during her OV. I wouldn’t say she was that special of a recruit to warrant something like that. They couldn’t arrange it in the end because he had commitments to a seminar going on at the same time (and probably also because she wasn’t that important!), but their attempt was an impressive show of their interest in her all the same.

We have 3 friends with sons at Ivies. Their SATsubtests were NOWHERE near 650 and none of them play soccer or basketball. They are great athletes. What the coaches have told them is that they have a mean GPA/SAT that they have to achieve for their teams. Some low ones will be offset by some higher than normal ones.
