What to bring to a morning potluck party being held out of area?

Buy Honeybell oranges from Hales. They can be delivered the week of the event and it won’t matter if they are there early. Everyone seems to love these. You could cut them or simply leave them whole.

@JEM There are a number of Whole Foods grocery stores in the Boston area. You mentioned that the event is northwest of the city. I live in that area. There is a Whole Foods in Bedford, Sudbury, Framingham, and a new one in Westford. WF would be a place where you would find something to contribute to the shower. Here’s a list of stores in MA https://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/list/state

@gearmom. Count me in on a recipe request for dried apricot scones!

I had something very similar to this http://www.themerchantbaker.com/blueberry-pie-baked-oatmeal/ at my most recent cookbook club meeting. (Theme comfort food.) It was very tasty and she made it the day before.

Apricot Scones
3 Cups flour
1/3 Cup sugar
1 t salt
2 1/2 t baking powder
1/2 t baking soda
1 1/2 stick cold butter - cut into cubes (I quarter the stick lengthwise and then slice into cubes)
1 Cup buttermilk
1/2 Chopped dried apricots

Mix the first six dry ingredients. Quick mix the cold butter cubes. Quick mix in Apricot pieces. Divide dough into two pieces. Places 2 8" diameter discs on parchments paper. Partially cut into the top to divide the scone into six pieces. Brush on an egg yolk wash and sprinkle with sugar (I use a large grain diamond sugar) You are going to need to check your scone for doneness but I convection bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes. I don’t know the conventional oven timing.

THANKS again, all!
Hostess just got back to me via e-mail. She voted for the fruit salad, said it would work well, and did accept my bringing a serving bowl and serving spoon but nothing else besides the fruit salad.
I can handle that, and am glad to have it settled and appreciated.
May try some of the other suggestions at another opportunity!

@JEM I usually take a 2 gallon zip-loc or other plastic bag to put the dirty serving bowl and spoon into so I can put it in the car without washing. Less work for the hostess.

My gift so often is the serving bowl. At at crafts fair, my friend and I fell I. Love with a ceramic bowl that resembled a watermelon. My fruit salad went onto that bowl. Other times, I just buy a cheap bowl, so I can leave it with the host.

Have a wonderful time, @JEM, and congrats on the new grandbaby!

I’ve bought the large watermelon and the tall cantaloupe
