One more thing to consider - sadly, coastal flooding is taking it’s toll on some locations. The bridge to Tybee Island, GA is flooded at high tide several times a year, even during good weather. If you pick an island, pick one with a higher bridge!
@greenwitch Yes, we discussed this up thread but it’s a beautiful place to live. My husband and his family have lived on St. Simons Island for generations and we are about to retire and move back. The Island has changed so much to include excellent shopping, putt putt golf, seaside swimming in the pool, family activities, dining, grocers, movies and medical facilities. He’s only had to evacuate once (1994). There have been many times when we have gone on the island for a few weeks vacation and not gone back over the Causeway until we are heading back to Indiana. Nowadays there is something that’s bound to happen no matter where you live…take the earthquakes in Oklahoma…fracking seems to be taking its toll.
