Sinkholes are a huge, huge problem in Florida…especially since insurance companies and state and local laws and ordinances have tightened up on sinkhole insurance claims. I think it is smartest to check with a sinkhole lawyer (yes they are abundant in Florida) asap after suspecting you have a sinkhole or any settling of your house–BEFORE contacting your insurance company. Once government officials and insurance company get wind that you have a possible sinkhole, your house is tainted and can be difficult to sell down the road especially if proper corrective work isn’t done which can easily be $100,000+ to shoot grout under house and install support piers under house. Get a lawyer to steer through a sinkhole problem and insurance claim to lessen the sinking feeling and to avoid getting burned financially.
