What to do in a pool with kids?

Paintbrushes to ‘paint’ the pool deck!

Our kids loved “painting” the pool with paintbrushes and buckets of water. Also, just standing there and letting them swim to you then pushing them back to the edge or jumping off the edge to you. Ours also loved being pulled in a circle unitl I got dizzy or hanging on my legs while I sat on the edge and being pushed back and forth. If they can dive at all, going through your legs is fun. . Playing catch or keep away with a foam ball is good.

The Childrens Museum in Indy is fantastic. The two kids may be a little too young, but the best thing in Indy is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Wow. The history in that place. With few exceptions, they basically have the winning cars on display dating back to the Marmon Wasp that won the first race in 1911. My daughter enjoyed going several times as a kid.

Since one of our favorite outdoor activities in the summer is “painting” the trees with buckets of water, I bet they’d LOVE painting the pool! I’ll pick up some paintbrushes.

Disappointed to hear that the Childrens Museum might be too old. These kids are both very bright and grown up, but should we skip it? It’s a little expensive if it’s all going to be over their heads.

The hotel may not let you do this. We did it at home when our kids were little.

Put an air mattress/flat float in the water near the edge. Run and jump on it stomach down. The float scoots across the water with you on it at a good speed.
Use a float large enough to keep the whole body almost dry. I used a queen sized air mattress.
Watch out for slick spots on the deck!

Sounds stupid but it is lots of fun.

Be very careful to maintain continuous supervision of the children. I do not think one adult for two small children in the pool is enough.

When my guy was little and we were in the baby pool, he loved playing with other kids’ toys! So bring enough to share in case they want to play with someone elses. Also, a watering can was fun to him to water each other or the other toys, etc.

I think he meant the Speedway might be too old for them. The Children’s Museum is awesome. We went when my youngest two were about that age and they loved it. Spent a whole day there.

Thanks, keymom- you’re right  I should’ve known not to try to comprehend things before 9 AM without coffee.

Watering each other when they’re already wet and in their bathing suits will be MUCH better than them trying to water each other in the summer when we’re out in the backyard watering their garden, fully clothed!

Awesome suggestions! I’m excited!
