What to do in Boston for a day if it's raining

I’ll second Faneuil Hall & the Quincy Market area, Teri. Also, haven’t been there since the Big Dig was on, but I think you can walk from there to the North End, the oldest Italian neighborhood in the country. And the Old North Church (made famous by Paul Revere) is right in the middle of the mix. Hanover Street is phenomenal.

Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum…my all time fav for rain or shine.

You’re so lucky. You can go see A Far Cry in concert this weekend.

A powerful young musical group of stringed instruments (classical, progressive…) A Far Cry, is just back home to Boston from touring in Houston and elsewhere. Google them for more.

Two concerts in Boston this weekend, Teri, when you’ll be there:

A Far Cry in Jamaica Plain
September 18 2010 4pm
St. John’s Episcopal Church, Jamaica Plain MA

A Far Cry at the Gardner Museum
September 19 2010 1:30pm
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston MA

From their website:

I see the Sunday concert is in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, so you could do both. Or try the Saturday in Jamaica Plain, a neighborhood of Boston.

It’s not under one roof, but Harvard Square is full of fun browsing shops and restaurants that are all just a few steps apart. In Boston, the North End might be the equivalent - I enjoy meandering through both. And personally, if the rain kept me indoors, the doors in Boston that I’d choose to be in might be those of the Samuel Adams Brewing Co. :)

Treasures from the Forbidden City exhibit at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. And for a little diversion, you can pick up a witch or two.

I’m a big Duck Tour fan… but FYI it’s supposed to clear up by around mid-day Friday, with plenty of sunshine in the afternoon. And a lovely weekend to follow!

I vote for the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and a nap!

Oops, I corrected the days-of-the-week in my post #23. The dates were already correct.

for tech-types, the Museum of MIT is pretty cool.

[MIT Museum](<a href=“MIT Museum Homepage | MIT Museum”>MIT Museum Homepage | MIT Museum)

check out the Mapparium [History of the Mapparium | The Mary Baker Eddy Library](http://www.marybakereddylibrary.org/exhibits/mapparium/history-of-the-mapparium) at the Christina Science center. Absolutely amazing and fun, besides being slightly educational.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Am on the duck tour right now. Is misting a bit but I’m staying dry! Lots of fun.

Enjoy! WHERE is the sunshine we were promised this afternoon???

MY older son insisted we visit the MIT Museum when we took his brother up to begin his freshman year at BU in August of 2009.

It really was quite interesting. You have to walk maybe 6 blocks from the T stop.

Lafalum84 - that’s what the driver kept saying!

Did notice it cleared out tonight, though, and will be sunny for whale-watching tomorrow.

Saw a lot on the Duck tour and learned a lot, too. Just the right amount of time.

Supposed to be great weather tomorrow though :)!

teriwtt, I hope you see more whales than H and I did when we went a few weeks ago :(

If I see one, it will be more than I’ve ever seen! And if anything, I will get a good view of the Boston Harbor.

D’s roommate and her mother are going, too. The mom has indicated there will be high swells tomorrow. I’m getting a bit nervous as I’ve never been out on a boat like this (have been out on private boat crafts, but not on high swells) for any kind of tour. I do NOT want to get seasick!

Teri, bring a paper bag and some Ginger ale with you on the boat ride. You might be able to see some whales in Hawaii in December, too!

This lasts only 2 hours. I did it last year.

I spent at least 5 hours (including lunch) in MFA.

 • Go to the drug store and pick up some ginger pills, and pop them regularly.

Stay out on deck where you can see the horizon. Try to minimize the time spent where you can’t see the horizon.
