<p>It happens all the time. Different colleges handle it differently and Schokoldae has done some reserach on this and has given examples in the thread below which talk about how this handled by different colleges. NMSC is very clear, if they give an award, it supersedes the college award. Again, please get do not get confused between the official and non- official portion (I call them the extra goodies) of the college award. </p>
<p>NMSC is only concerned about the official portion of the college award (which can range between $500 to $2000 a year. Any thing beyond that is the unofficial portion).</p>

<p>Mom2collegekids who posts on this forum has a son who got into U of Alabama and for the first year he got the NMSC award and U of A given him the college award for the remaining years. Unfortunately not all colleges handle it that way and the thread above gives specific examples.</p>
