What to do with old car license plates?

@dragonmom i love the spray paint idea! Very good.

I’ve moved to at least five different states. But I have lived in this one for a long time. When I left previous states, no one even asked me about my plates or what happened to them. I threw them away.

If I had a pile of plates from old cars, I would make one trip to MV with them all…and wait as long as necessary to get rid of them (if required by my state). We just don’t hang on to license plates…not even the ones from our kid’s first cars or whatever.

California is one of the states where regular plates stay with the car. So they all went with the cars when they were sold.

I’ve lived in MA my whole life. I had the same set of plates for about 30 years and when the car wouldn’t pass inspection because “the reflective surface is gone from the plate” I got a new set (same #). First set is hanging in the garage - I peeled back the stickers to the original/first one. If I was looking to dispose of it I’d probably use some tin snips to cut it in half and just throw it in the recycle bin.

You can make cute birdhouses with license plate roofs.

I like the recycling or crafting option.

I’ve given up my old plates to DMV when we shipped car out of state, I believe. Had to give them up to get new ones.
