What varsity sports look best?

You guys all obsess over your grades and SAT scores when maybe you should be spending more time playing a sport. I only have a 1240 SAT and average 89/90 grades and i’m not an amazing athlete but pretty good and are being recruited by some ivies, and some good west coast schools. Seriously, even if its fencing, spend alot of time on something and try to get good.

I think that Football is one of the toughest sports to play and keep up grades…

In August we practice about 7 hours a day, killing each other, in blistering heat…

And then during the school year we have 3 and a half hour practcices EVERY DAY where we run and kill each other… I come back from practice often bruised and muddy and then have to go home eat, shower and do my homework…I often don’t go to bed sometimes till 11 or 12, get up at 5:30, rinse, and repeat.

And in the off season we have lifting and running 8 hours a week…It is practically year- round…

Just my two cents…

Btw i play basketball also…

Track & Field. Purest Sport. Needs most ablility.

this discussion is ridiculous (basketball; no, track; no, wrestling; no, track; etc.)
any rational human being would see by now that it IS ALL RELATIVE
PLEASE let this thread die

Believe it or not, Track and Cross Country look best on an application because they show self discipline, not team discipline

What about wrestling. It’s one on one there too…AND team discipline because you pull stuff out of your ASS to get your team points.

middistancerunner17, I sent you a PM. Interested in your recruiting experiences so far.

And football does not show self-discipline? If I miss my blocking assignment my QB or RB gets creamed…Each one of us has our own jobs to do, and fulfilling them, in my opinion, shows self-discipline.

Varsity Table Hockey.

Wrestling is pretty damn hard because it has what most sports have plus more. I think boxing would be no joke as well.

not to mention the weight cutting issues with wrestling… I know ppl that pass out in class during the day because they are cutting 25+ pounds (and are in good shape to begin with) to be competetive wrestlers…

Baseball…hands down

all sports require stamina and strength, but xc and track & field athletes push themselves beyond incredible limits. example: 400m hurdles (it hurts)

what do you mean it hurts… go ice your legs and feel good the next day!!! Plus you guys have shorter practices!

BASEBALL HANDS DOWN looks the best…good ol americas past time cannot be denied folks!

Wow, this thread is still alive??

Once again, I wasn’t asking which sport is actually hardest to play, more like which sport would be most likely to get a “wow, joe started two years for his varsity ***** team! that’s pretty good!” from an adcom.
I think its like how Michelle Hernandez described jobs in “Acing the College Application”. You might be one of the best babysitters around and your job may be very strenuous, but many biased adcoms will still be more imprsssed by manual labor intensive jobs. It’s probably the same thing with sports.

i personally passed out this year in school from wrestling. i lost 20 pounds very quickly and i could barely do any school work. it is definently the hardest sport that not only destroys you physically during practice but takes control of your entire life both mentally and physically. imagine trying to studying when you havent eaten in 3 days or actually taking a test when all you can think about if you are .1 over or not. not to mention the pain your body is constanly in. this year alone i sprained my ankles twice and pulled out my tricep. this sport is hell.

true dat… cutting class to cut weight? u know it… I was always 10 pounds below my normal weight during this past season…

what about like WWE Wrestling. I know its fake but do colleges like that I started an organization at my school like that? you know fake ringside wrestling…? I personally act like The Rock, while the kid I fight against is Stone Cold. He sometimes uses the Stunner but my People’s Eyebrow intimidates him.

thats like full ride to harvard material man

track/cc are the best
