That’s odd. I’m sixteen and nearly everyone I know loves the Holy Grail. I myself am a huge Monty Python fan; I always try and catch the re-runs on BBC America.

As per Jean Shepherd–
A Christmas Story is still one of my favorite movies, and such a big part of the movie is his voice-over narration. I never heard his old radio stuff but enjoyed the books.

His radio stuff was basically the same kind of stuff you find in the books (Wanda Hickey et al.) but told in his inimitable voice.

Booklady, yes, I did see the Zero Mostel version of The Producers, ages ago, and I liked that a lot. Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed with the remake.

Elven Hobbit, I’m glad you like Monty Python. It makes me feel a little less geriatric to know you and your friends like them. Don’t know why my kids don’t like it, but it is not their cup of tea.

Chris Rock and Jackie Chan were good in Rush Hour and Rush Hour 2 (did not see Rush Hour 3). Another tv show I liked was Frazier. We saw David Hyde Pierce in Curtains and really enjoyed it.

I like all those guys. I liked Mort Sahl back in the day too, even though I was only in Jr. High at the time.

And I love most all of Monty Python. And my kids like Monty Python too. No generational gap there. But it wasn’t until they were a little older and watched the Python shows for themselves that they realized they had been raised with a constant low-level stream of Monty Pythonisms being said around the house. E.g. whenever anyone said that weren’t expecting something the reply would be “Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition…”

One thing that I’ve never found funny that others often do: jokes or skits based on flatulence.

JEFF DUNHAM the ventriloquist he is hilarious! Specially his puppets Walter, Peanut and the Terrorist (some people think he is not very PC though!)

How about Steven Wright?

Here are some samples:

And No Time Tolouse! I’m fond of Fawlty Towers and for comedians, I like Mike MacDonald. He had HBO special a few yrs ago, but I haven’t heard much of him since.

My favorite Steven Wright quote: “My family had a quicksand box. I was an only child…eventually.”

Love Daily Show and Colbert. Monty Python and Holy Grail is an icon in my house; I’m pretty sure my son could repeat the entire script if called upon to do so. Loved the Airplane movies, Mel Brooks movies, etc.

Our family’s current favorite contemporary stand up comedians would have to be Lewis Black and Eddie Izzard.

David Sedaris: Night of the Living Dead and the essay on his visit to a nudist camp.

The Office and that show that’s not on anymore. Can’t think of the name, but about a crazy family, one of their businesses was a frozen banana stand.

Arrested Development. My husband liked it everyone else HATED it. We were loaned the DVDs, but refuse to be in the room with it. We’re now watching MASH reruns instead.

I like xkcd (web comic for nerds), but don’t check it out regularly the way my kids do. I also like Calvin and Hobbs, Zits, Foxtrot, Mutts and Sherman’s Lagoon.

I read a lot of things for humor that aren’t just funny - like favorite authors Jane Austen and Lois McMasters Bujold.

I like David Sedaris in small doses.

My nephew loves Monty Python and can do many of the routines, my kids can take it or leave it, but did like both movie of The Holy Grail and Spamalot.

I enjoy listening to Hiassen’s books on tape on long car trips, but don’t know if I need to bother to read the paper versions. Ruth Reichel’s books make me laugh too.

Kids books I liked more than my kids did.
apparently their taste is more * sophisticated*

The Stupids die- I thought it was hilarious.

Higgelty Pigglety Pop ( a perfect book IMO )

Owl at Home ( how can you go wrong with tearwater tea?)

E, is the Stupids die - is that the same book where they woke up in Cleveland, but they thought they were in heaven (and that’s why they thought they were dead)???

I can’t stand Monty Python, I don’t understand what people find funny about it.

I like stupid humor, like The Simpsons and Family Guy stuff. I guess some people would describe Monty Python as stupid humor too, but I think it’s just plain stupid.

best in show
waiting for guffman
mighty wind
family guy
larry david
brian regan

Someone mentioned Henry Cho no one mentioned Margret Cho. She’s as funny as the bests. Her favorite line or used to be:

“I AM The One I Want”.

Thanks a lot for that. Lady.

Arrested Development, thanks mathmom.

Zits: Obviously based on cottonwood sapling.

David Sedaris is a friend of a dear family friend. Nice to see such support for him!

Monty Python was formative.
Arrested Development was mourned as it was cancelled.
Thirty Rock leaves me in stitches.
xkcd and PhD Comics are read religiously.

If you root for the aliens in the Alien trilogy, it’s pretty funny, too.

“Found” the magazine (?) and the books. People find notes in all sorts of places and mail them in to the Found editors.
