What would adequately compensate those Carnival Cruiseline passengers?

LOL, poetgirl, it’s like Contracts class in law school…whether a contract of adhesion is enforceable. No matter what, if 1000 people sue in 1000 different jursidictions (are there even 1000 different jurisdictions?), it would certainly cost Carnival more than $500 each to have them removed and/or dismissed.

I think it’s a shame. We’ve cruised on numerous occassions with large family groups and loved it. Including on Carnival ships. It’s a great vacation when everyone can be pleased from the oldest to the youngest and you don’t have to worry about meals. I would certainly do it again since the chance of something happening is so small.

I have to keep reminding myself that it was only a few days. From the news reports, you would think they had been stranded for months.

I am still wondering, if it was me, after I was home, clean and full, and had not become sick, and had not lost my job or any pay for extra missed work, what amount of money could Carnival offer me that would make me say, “Okay, I accept, that’s fair, I will sign your release.”

Never having spent even five minutes in a windowless cruise ship cabin complete with sewage dripping down the walls…I have a hard time judging how well I could survive “only a few days”.

To be entirely serious about it? Whatever it costs for my airfair, the “cruise,” the time I took off work, the visit to the doc to make sure I didn’t catch anything, the cabs the hotel the night before and after, the parking or carfare to the airport, and whatever amount of money it would cost them in attorney fees to get my case tossed out of court.

If I turned out to be ill from the contaminated environment? that would be a whole other story. If I was old and vulnerable? I’m sure I would be ill. If I had a psychological condition? Or developed claustrophobia, etc…?

nottelling–my stepdad always got good travel insurance and once had to be airlifted on a Lear jet from Kazakhstan to Finland due to cardiac problems. It was covered.

This didn’t take long… [Cassie Terry, Carnival Triumph Cruise Passenger, First To Sue Over ‘Horrifying’ Conditions](<a href=“Cassie Terry, Carnival Triumph Cruise Passenger, First To Sue Over 'Horrifying' Conditions | HuffPost The World Post”>Cassie Terry, Carnival Triumph Cruise Passenger, First To Sue Over 'Horrifying' Conditions | HuffPost The World Post)

I’m surprised it even took that long.

I am glad at least some in the media are using th story to draw attention to the larger issues of inadequate sanitation around the world.

Also, I hope the workers on the Carnival ship receive compensation for what they went through, too.

Im sorry if it’s been posted previously, cant go thru all of the old posts…
but I heard last night that the Triumph had been “seized” and was taken out of service due to dangerous conditions. Carnival had to front $10Million to get it out of …jail. I wonder if passengers were aware of that?! I think it was on Rock Center w/ Brian Williams on NBC. The oceans are for the most part… the wild frontier according to their report. No standards.

^^ I believe you’re referring to something that happened last year and had nothing to do with the safety of the Triumph itself but rather as a way to secure a plaintiff’s claims against Carnival relating to the Concordia disaster.

They probably had to wait 'til they could get cellphone reception to call their attorney, and then had to fax or attach to an email a signed engagement letter with their attorney before he could file suit. Slowed them down a few hours, I’d guess ;)

from the article referenced in #90

Guess that is another entry into the ‘never let a good crisis go to waste’ category. (yes, pun intended)

I want:

 1. Refund
 2. Cost of tranporstation from and to home
 3. Compensation for loss of salary/vacation

ooh, that pun really stinks, dietz :)

coolweather–
Add: compensation for PTSD - post traumatic sewage disorder

**sure wish I could type!

I would certainly consider that too, jym. Especially for weight loss when getting home.

Carnival is terrible. You could not pay me to cruise that line. At the end of summer 2009 we took a Disney cruise. On the last night, as we were headed back to Port Canaveral, we stopped in the middle of the ocean around midnight to rescue a guy who had jumped from the Carnival ship ahead of us.

Their attempt to rescue him failed as the crew capsized their own lifeboats, so the crew of the Disney Wonder went out and rescued him and brought him onboard. They beat the Coast Guard to getting him since Carnival couldn’t manage to rescue him…

Wait-- you may be onto something, coolweather! They could market the cr*p cruise as their new diet/weight loss cruise! They won’t have to hire Richard Simmons!
