What Would You Do: Movie Theater

Am I the only one who noticed this? “when my previously reclined seat is pressed to a nice, comforting acute angle.” You mean they press you into an uncomfortable angle? Or is this like on a plane, when you recline in their lap?

Seriously, just politely bring up the issue. Forget the shifting, pressing back or anything else that may need ESP. Guys and older people don’t mind a polite exchange.

I’ll try to speak up. I just hate when you politely request something and then things turn south. That’s why usually I keep my mouth shut.

The movie theaters I go to aren’t large ones. There’s not a large selection of back row seating. And there aren’t any large movie theaters nearby that aren’t worth the drive or the $14 they charge for a ticket!

It’s nice to see people choosing not to go to theaters. Not something I’ve really heard before! Might give it a try with my friends. Because I am generally with large groups of people, getting up and moving isn’t the easiest thing to do.

No, it was sarcasm, lookingforward. Being pressed into an acute angle when you’re sitting is not comfortable. It is uncomfortable. As far as reclining goes, the seats lean back maybe an inch or two. They don’t interfere with the row behind them. Because they have the ability to back forward and back, when someone presses their foot on the back of the chair, the chair is pressed all the way forward.

As an actual response, not a joke from me, it depends on the movie and the setting. We saw Point Break with a raucous crowd of 440 tonight. The kid behind me would shift his legs and knock my seat. But there was a party atmosphere so I rolled with it. If we were watching Death in Venice, I’d have said something. But when we’re cheering as Johnny Utah tells his hard-bleep FBI boss he caught his first tube ride … you chill.

One time my boyfriend and I were sitting waiting for the movie to start in a relatively empty theater and this largish man walks in and chooses to sit in front of me. It would’ve been okay if him and his seat didn’t lean all the way back into my lap. I made an angry sound to see of the man would notice that he was practically on me and he didn’t do anything. So I told my boyfriend loudly that we needed to find new seats with a people in front of us. Now I find seats that have a walkway and a metal bar in front of them. Problem fixed.
