I think his ties are ugly. Nordstrom carries some nice ties and their salespeople are very good at helping pull out ties if you bring in a suit/shirt or are buying one there.
Thanks for posting that link, not telling–Merkel was wearing sort of light turquoise with white–totally fine. Who made the pants pink, in the earlier photo? I wouldn’t normally comment on what a woman is wearing–heaven knows, no one is going to be following my style–and I don’t have any comments on Hillary’s outfits. Or men’s suits for that matter. I felt a little hypocritical even posting, but the (false) appearance of the pink pants was just a little too much!
Actually @QuantMech your comment about how that jacket might look better with black pants was spot on. Here is a pic of her with a very similar jacket paired with black pants and I think it is a much more professional look:

Shouldn’t it have been reversed? 
Angela Merkel strikes me as a German woman - less fussy with the style details and more into substantive policy. German culture seemed quite different than French culture when we visited. In France it feels like every single woman has some sort of style flair, no matter how subtle and no matter her age. Germany felt more like the U.S. You see stylish people but also plenty of no-frills people too.
