Similar, HS Physics teacher had PE background and was my basketball coach. Didn’t learn anything. He wrote a letter of rec for me and gave it to me after he sent it in…full of grammar and spelling errors.
Another funny one.
I told my daughter about a high school teacher that I had who would just go to sleep in class every day. He would tell us to read a chapter in our US History textbook and then write out the answers to the questions at the end of that chapter. After giving these instructions, he would put his head down on his desk and go to sleep for one hour. He didn’t fall asleep on accident–he went to sleep on purpose. Every single day.
The students would turn in their written answers at the end of class. One day, I turned in my piece of paper with the answers to the questions on it. I left the classroom, but had to go back in for some reason. I walked in just in time to see him throw the stack of student answers in the trash.
Now here is the funny part. Of all of the high school classes that I had…I learned the MOST in this one. Reading and then answering questions is a better learning method for me than listening to a lecture. We also got through a couple of thick textbooks. Frankly, I am hard pressed to think of a college course where I learned this much.
My daughter loves this story and doesn’t believe that it is true. But it is.
