What's The Last New Recipe You Tried?

abasket- this caught my eye :The 2nd night I take the chicken off the bone and use it in various ways:** hot chicken salad**,

What is Hot chicken salad ?

Don’t have the recipe right in front of me, but it’s a casserole much loved my family. Mix together cooked shredded/diced chicken, celery, water chestnuts, cheddar cheese, sliced almonds and cream of chicken soup and a couple other things - spread in 9x13 pan and top with some crushed potato chips. Bake till hot and bubbly.

I can post more exact later if you wish. :)

Are we allowed to do low brow on this thread, too?

Here’s one that’s so low it might get me shunned on CC:

Leftover chicken shredded
Cooked noodles (I like rotini)
A large glass jar of the Hunt’s chicken gravy

Heat up the gravy with the chicken and mix it into the noodles. My family explodes with joy when I make this one. What can I say? Sometimes simple is the way to go . . .

LOL Sewhappy, just as I was told at Verizon store, yesterday, there aren’t any “dumb” questions (which the salesperson said before I asked my “dumb” question),
so. let’s say here aren’t any “low brow” recipes.
Let’s be fearless  Your recipe looks easy, and sometimes that’s the way to go-especially if **your family explodes with joy **

Abasket, yes, I would appreciate that hot Chicken salad recipe when you can post it. Thanks.

Sewhappy, that sounds very much like one of my favorites from when I was a kid, except with beef. My dad would brown ground beef, stir in brown gravy and serve over egg noodles. Add a side salad and that was a favorite family dinner!

Sewhappy, unfortunately my family does not explode with joy at my family comfort meal dish. It’s 1 pound of hamburger, 1 pound of spaghetti, and one can of tomato soup. Cook the hamburger and spaghetti separately then throw it all into a casserole dish and cook it for about half an hour. I haven’t made it in years!

Who knows, Mathmom, maybe they’ll explode after the long wait.

I find that I do well with most recipes that include the word “throw” in the instructions.

Green tomato pie!

It reminds me of the low brow recipe I haven’t made in years, but the kids absolutely loved: browned ground beef, can of cream of mushroom soup and rice all mixed up. Brings back great memories.

LOL sewhappy! I just came from your “made in America” thread, and the Hunt’s chicken gravy you use for your “low brow” recipe is Made in America! Well, now! Keep using American Made products! :)

Hot Chicken Salad

2-3 c. chopped/shredded cooked chicken
1/2 c. chopped celery
1 can sliced water chestnuts, drained (you can chop a little smaller if you like)
1/4 c. sliced almonds
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4. c. mayo
1 c. shredded sharp cheddar
1 can cream of chicken (low fat one is fine)

1/4 to 1/2 c. crushed potato chips

Mix all ingredients except potato chips. Spread in 9 x 13 Pam sprayed pan. Sprinkle w/crushed potato chips. Bake at 375 for 40 minutes or until lightly browned and bubbly.

Oops, in case anyone is dying to make my recipe  there’s also one can of kidney beans to throw in. That’s why it was called “Chili”. (Which is why my kids didn’t like it.) Dh just thinks it’s boring.

Change the spaghetti to elbow macaroni and add some paprika, and it’s low-brow goulash, a staple when I was growing up.

On Fridays: Tuna fish & rice – can of tuna fish, can of cream of mushroom soup and rice. A can of green peas is optional.

Oh, abasket, that sounds good! I think the term “hot salad” is a regional term. In other parts of the country, you’d call it a casserole or hotdish.

Here’s something chocchipcookie might like; a pumpkin chocolate chip cookie. I just made them for my son, who is home on fall break.

Another low brow dish that not only was a favorite of the kids, but still is: tuna fish, mayonnaise and elbow macaroni.

Thanks Mathmom! The apple dumpling recipe was a big hit with my book club and so easy.

Oh Toledo.

Would you believe I am a HUGE fruit and vegetable fan, but one of the very few I don’t like is pumpkin? I know, this time of year it’s great to make things with pumpkin. Actually, my sister made a peanut butter, pumpkin, and butternut squash (I think) soup for Thanksgiving one year that I adored. Maybe because the pumpkin was masked!

Thank you for thinking of me…my H & I adore cookies too! :D

^^ Can you ask your sister for the recipe?
