What's the nicest thing a stranger has done for you?

My husband and I were eloping at age 19 and we had a tire blow out on our way to Reno. A very nice man in a red Jeep rescued us (this was before cell phones) and took us to get our tire changed.

I had been shopping for the right large pony / small horse for my 9 year old daughter for nearly a year. She was a timid rider, and needed an unflappable, dependable partner. I saw an ad for one who looked promising, and I made arrangements to go see him. When we arrived, the seller had another buyer looking at the same time (this is just not done!). The other buyer was a man who runs a trail riding business, and he had driven 200 miles with his truck and trailer, expecting to take the horse home that day. We both acknowledged the awkwardness of the situation, but both went on with examining the horse. When it was clear that we both wanted to buy this horse, and that for my daughter this was The Perfect One, he kindly got in his truck and drove away.

Another nice memory.

I was at parents weekend for my son, at a college across the country. I was friended by a nice local woman. She invited my son and I, And the awful fiancé, to her home for T-day. (We had a lovely time.)

It turned out that her son and mine were in the same House, and became good friends. When my son had an interview in NYC, her son lent him shoes. The mom was so nice, I wasn’t surprised that her son was just as lovely.
