I have been a long time lurker on these boards and have resisted the temptation to correct some of the UGA/GA Tech misinformation I have read until now. First let me say that both UGA and Ga Tech are excellent schools and you will get a fine education at both institutions. That said, please do not assume that UGA is a safety school for anyone. You would be amazed at the number of high stat kids who get rejected every year. Also, do not assume that if you get in Ga Tech you are a shoe in at UGA. This year at my daughters small but well regarded private school we had four students who applied early action at both UGA and Ga Tech. These students were not athletes, not URMs, in fact they had no hooks at all. Only one of these students was in the top 20% of the class and two of the students would not even be considered among the best math/science students in the class. All four of these students got in early action to Ga Tech. All four of these students were deferred at UGA and ultimately DENIED! This does not mean that one school is better than the other. I would just caution against believing in blanket statements such as “UGA is a good plan B” if you can’t get into Ga Tech.
