<p>Thank you for that link. I am going to share that with my kids. We have friends from India and helping that country might be something that would appeal to them. I had not realized how high Heifer’s overhead is. I have to reread the disclosure in the booklet.</p>
<p>the Salvation Army is my top charity but thanks to the posts here, I’ve gotten some new ideas for this year.</p>
<p>We’ve often do donations instead of gifts for the in-laws. We pick charities that we know to be their favorites (Habitat. Salvation Army, their local library).</p>
<p>We donate to our local food bank. When Fang Jr was little, he and I used to work there a morning a week-- and I suppose now I’m an empty nester I should do that again. We also donate to the Nature Conservancy.</p>
<p>We used to donate to the Salvation Army, but after I learned of their anti-gay policies I resolved they wouldn’t get another penny from me.</p>
<p>Please do not forget the four-legged friends this holiday season. Humans can help themselves or find a support network. Homeless, ownerless pets are much less fortunate - we make sure the local pet shelter gets some of the stuff they are desperately looking for.</p>
<p>At work we sponsor a single parent, low income family. We always collect enough money to include a Safeway or another grocery store gift card in addition to the requested toys and clothes.</p>
