Our family enjoys Quiddler and Chicken Foot Dominos. I LOVE Tribond, but no one will play with me because I always win :-)

bouncing this one up for those of us who are looking for holiday gifts.

Cosmic Wimpout, a dice game, lots of fun & about $6.00.
Will fit in a Christmas stocking too. :)

Thanks for all the great ideas! Has anyone ever played Orijinz? I saw it at Levenger’s (?) at a mall not too long ago & have been toying w/ the idea of getting it. It is unavailable at amazon so I may have to go back to the mall (not my favorite place!) to get it so I want to get an informed opinion first…

When our whole family gets together for Christmas we love to play Scattergories and LCR (with dollars). Both are fun that any age can play

Cardinal Fang, I love Lost Cities!

Among other games mentioned, I also enjoy Blockus. I still enjoy Pictionary, Scattergories, and Trivial Pursuit. Bananagrams is fun, too.

And of course I’ve already declared my allegiance to Settlers of Cataan.

A great blast from the past is Milles Bornes.

Another vote for Left, Right, Center. All ages can play.

Could someone explain what’s fun about Left Center Right? I’m obviously missing something.

Agree! Can someone provide a link to “Left Center Right”?

Not “new” but not as old as Monopoly…

Upwords. It’s like scrabble, but with a different twist. I played this with my kids when they were little because shorter words (often rhyming words) are often used. It helped with their reading and spelling skills.

Anyone with young grandkids should get this game and play it with them.

I like Upwords too, Mom2Kids!

My husband recently brought home Anomia and it is our new favorite - we’ve been playing it non-stop and you can vary it based on how many are playing. My 13, 15 and 18 year olds all love it too and the 18 year old wants a copy to take back to her dorm after break! Definitely recommend it!
Love Apples to Apples! Another good one is Balderdash and Beyond Balderdash. Very interactive and creative. You surprisingly learn a lot about the other people you play with, which could be great for getting back in sync with your kids who are away from home.

An update on Bezzerwizzer - I bought this game on Amazon after seeing it mentioned on this thread, and I just wanted to let you all know that we played it last night and loved it! I intended to give it to my H & S’s for Christmas, but we were all in the mood for a board game last night so I dragged it out from the closet and opened it. We had a blast! My sons are 19, 17, and 13 and we all loved it. I recommend it highly to anyone who likes trivia pursuit type games.

PinotNoir, Thanks for letting us know. We were too consumed with football on Thurs and DS1 had so much homework I didn’t want to distract him. We’ll try again at Christmas!

Played Mexican Train Dominoes for the first time this weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of fun and laughter. Thank you for recommending it.

A cousin of mine brought “Boxers or Briefs” to a family gathering and it was a blast! (An apples to apples concept, but the reader chooses one card that is TRUE and one card that is just FUNNY…very good for all ages.

Love some of your suggestions…we are going on vaca as a family for Christmas…I will order a couple of these games to take with.

Our go-to game right now is Wits and Wagers. It is a knowledge game where all of the answers are numbers. The various guesses are placed on the board for the players to bet on which answer was closest to right without going over. You don’t need to know the answer, just bet intelligently. A fourth grader beat us all a few weeks ago.

I bought LRC and apples to apples based on your reviews. We played on Thanksgiving and had a blast. My 81 year old MIL who is losing her hearing and memory a bit, played too. It was great for her to feel included with the kids.

Played Michigan Rummy with my 82 year old mom over T’giving; it is a classic. (As is she.)

I’m shopping online for games now and discovered this site–

In addition to rankings and ratings it has a lot of useful information like length of games and best number to play with. Also, discussion forums. ;)
