Does anyone have any sense of how big the wait list is and what the chances are of getting off of it?

platitudinarian - i’d definitely contact the financial aid office, tell them your situation, and see if they can work something out

Well, got the little envelope today. Yup, rejection. Kinda sucks, Bowdoin was probably my first choice. Got waitlisted at Oberlin, too… But Kenyon gave me a full ride with a combination of grants and a scholarship, so thats not too shabby i guess. Its just that Kenyon is about 10 miles from my house. And family. Yuck.

Kenyon is a great school!!! And a free ride-- you should be pumped. 10 miles away from home isn’t ideal. But still it’s an amazing offer. Besides, everyone I know who goes there loves it.

i’d also like to know about the size of the waitlist.

Has anyone NOT received a decision from Bowdoin? I’m in eastern North Carolina, and I know that is a long way from Maine, but it seems like everyone has heard something–accepted, rejected, and waitlisted.

Letters/packages get lost in the mail. I wouldn’t worry about it…yet. If you recieve nothing by Mon., you should think about calling/emailing Bowdoin…

As for the size of the waitlist, I do know that they have to figure out the yield rate of acceptances. Last year there was an article in the Orient that had the interim dean of admissions (Richard Steele) saying that he didn’t think they were going to be doing much action with the waitlist. I only know one person who got in here via waitlist and he got in late in the summer (like early August) through some family connections. But who knows what is going to happen this year, though it was more competitive - but good luck to everybody and congrats to the admits.
