When choosing college think about airports, connections and locations

I’m in the mountain west and my kid is on the east coast at a college that only gives two days off for Thanksgiving break, the holiday and the day after. Flying home during that Wed-Sun window, because heaven forbid professors cancel Wednesday classes, is expensive. And fares have only gone up since we started this journey in 2019 with my daughter (she attended the same college). Add in travel delays and some years I was wondering if it was worth it. Spouse and I have thought about going there but the kids prefer to come home. A long break like DePaul’s would be wonderful.

My across the country college kid DID have a full week off at Thanksgiving. BUT after the break, they had one week of classes and then exams. We were not flying the kid round trip twice in that short period of time.

But we also had close relatives who lived a $100 round trip shuttle away and that’s where the kid went every Thanksgiving, and two spring breaks. It was a nice time for her to spend with her aunt and uncle who were happy to have her!
