@MFHP96 - with CSE it’s really hard to say. First of all, I’ve heard that only 10% of every college is admitted to honors and that’s typically the tippy-top 10%, stat-wise. Your son is up there so hopefully it’ll come through (don’t know whether they consider course load as well but probably do - esp. with CSE!). Critically, you need to know that honors is determined by college, not university- (else it would be filled with CSE/CBS and no one else
). His stats would be a slam dunk for honors at most if not all of the other colleges, but honors at CSE is very, very selective. Also, I’ve heard that it’s not necessary to get into honors in CSE - it’s rigorous enough as is, TUVM! However, for those who are looking for an accelerated track and like research, honors provides the resources. Finally, you needn’t be admitted to honors to get merit aid - it’s an indicator, not a necessary condition.
One other thing - this is the first year they went full Common Ap. They appear to be swamped. So things are a tad slower this year than prior years. For the Nov. admits, it’s possible to be notified during the spring even in a normal year when things are running smoothly. So don’t give up just because things are taking a bit longer this year.
Hope that helps!
