Maybe they called because the car they were in was getting towed away and they needed a ride and she lived closest? It will be interesting to see if she resurfaces somewhere soon, in a nice, cushy job. My guess is she will. Also, I’m assuming she gets to keep her pension.
These two cops behaved totally professionally not knowing who she may or may not know and how it could affect their careers.
Incredible to think that she seems totally unaware, or worse, simply doesn’t care that she is on film. Like she’s too highbrow to ever have seen an episode of Cops.
I understand her title at the Port Authority was Ethics Chairwoman. There’s a certain amount of irony there.
Doesn’t she own her own lucrative PR firm?
I believe so. But I fully expect her to be recycled into some governmental position at some point.
One article said that the driver could not provide registration and proof of insurance, so maybe monster mom was called to provide those things and avoid a ticket. Ok, fine, if she’s close and will show up and save everyone the trouble of fighting the ticket in court why not. In one part of the video you can see one of the passengers looking on with her head in her hands as though she can’t believe mom is acting this way. And yes, good on the officers for staying composed, and good for the department for releasing this video. Hope they all got a good laugh out of it.
Also a little regionalism there. From my childhood upbringing, Ma’am would have been the correct way for the officers to address monster mom, with Miss being less respectful. In the NE Ma’am might be considered either a)calling her old or b)sarcastic, so the officer called her Miss. Which enraged her, as she had shown them her business card and expected them to address her as Commissioner. Right.
Daughter was a passenger. The officer tells her politely that she can get all the information she needs from the driver. He also informs her her daughter is only a passenger and not charged with anything. It is unclear at this time who is the Yale student, the MIT student and the London based Investment Banker.
I live on LI and I remember that guy. There was another guy, if I recall correctly, who was canned for having trees and debris cleared off his property after Sandy. I think he was with the utility company.
This woman was SO offensive. Plus, when I first heard the story, I assumed the “kids” were in HS. That they were post-grads at top rated schools just makes it even worse. Why did they call mommy? Handle it yourself, you’re a grownup.
Port Authority board member is not a full-time job. She would have had some other job (i.e., her PR firm) that was her principal employment. She had to have had considerable political clout to get appointed to the Port Authority board, but she wouldn’t/shouldn’t need to get some other government position, at least not until this incident is waaaay in the past.
@Jon234 -
She’s a holdover from Chris Christie. I doubt she will be getting any governmental employment from the current guv.
Was the car hers? Her D was a pax.
I stand corrected. I’m not sure it even provides a salary. Maybe she was doing it because she was so ethical?
She’ll show up again in time, I’m confident of that.
I can’t imagine this publicity will help her PR company either.
Oh, so she wasn’t even helping out on the ticket part, just trying to spring her kid? Nope, can’t see that.
Maybe the publicity won’t hurt her business much. She’ll stand up for her people all right.
Wow, those officers deserve medals! I am so very happy that woman lost her job. Unbelievable.
The car was being impounded. I think the daughter called Mom for a ride.
My first thought was that she (Mom not daughter) must be drunk but I guess they’d have arrested her if she had been.
Oh and she has “apologized” but says she did nothing wrong.
Top 16 moments of the video, for those who don’t want to waste 16 minutes watching the whole thing (as I did):

Also from the article: “Mark Zinna, the former Tenafly Borough Council President who served as acting Mayor in 2017 is now calling for official misconduct charges to be brought against Turner.”
She issued a public statement about the incident that ended with this sentence:
Unbelievable.

I think mom went into lawyer mode and tried to intimidate the ‘witness’ (police) into getting a confession i.e.: drop the charges and get the driver off. Fortunately the police didn’t fold though I don’t think the police officer should have told her he didn’t like the way she approached him. Goes into subjective territory on his part. Stick to the facts, Danno
I haven’t been paying attention, and didn’t realize she’s a Christie appointee. Figures! The gift that keeps on giving–so glad we don’t mostly have to deal with him and his shenanigans anymore!
“he is also an attorney with Potomac Law Group[8][9] and adjunct professor at George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.[10]”
Yikes!!
From the wiki, she is a democrat and a GWU adjunct prof. Does she still have the university job? Interesting Christi appointed her.
I am surprised the kids didn’t try to stop her. Were they agreeing with her about the ticket?
Her Turner GPA lobbying website is no longer available, and she deleted her private FB page, which was still up and public yesterday. (We had 2 friends in common … yikes!)
She needs to update all of her (several) LinkedIn mentions of her Port Authority gig.
I’m guessing that she had a few drinks…obvious because she loses her train of thought several times and falters. The police officers likely saw this, but did not want to escalate the situation and make it more difficult. They could have had her do a breathalyzer and towed her car as well, but wanted to end the whole interchange knowing that they followed protocol and she was a whack job.
Interesting how a few drinks and some stress reveals the character behind the facade.
