Zach…It really depends on how “up to speed” your school is on the whole NMSF/NMF process. Our D1 scored 235 on the PSAT (2 years ago, not this past year) so we knew she was going to be a Semifinalist, but her school didn’t contact any of the students (3 last year) until a couple of weeks after many other schools had notified their students.

The best thing you can do is stay in contact with your Principal and/or Guidance Counselor to see if anything has arrived from NMSC. If they’re pretty well versed on the whole process they’ll let you know, but it’s best to be informed and proactive.

Regarding “commended” status…your school should’ve received a letter and informed you before the end of this past school year that you were in the top 50,000. It’s not a huge deal if they didn’t tell you since your score easily qualifies for Commended, but if they didn’t it may give you an indication that they’re not fully aware of the potential importance of National Merit status. Good Luck!!
